Conaire mor - Commander of the East Company

Just thought I'd post this here and see if I could get some feedback on this guy.

He's the commander of the 3rd company of my d.i.y chapter. It's pretty non codex, with 5 companies of 200 men each, roughly.

The chapter has a strong celtic influence to it, with the whole organisation of it being based around the province system in Ireland, hence the North(Ulster), West(Connaught), South(Munster) & East (Leinster, or 'Laighn' as it used to be known) organisation for companies, with the best of the best from each being sequestered to the High Commanders High Company (Tara).

As I said, this guy is Conaire Mor, the Comander of the Laighn, the great Eastern Company.

He's a bit of a hard nut, leads from the front and has a particular distaste for the foul xenos.

He's really my first in-depth conversion, so all feedback gladly appreciated. I know my painting isn't great, but I've really only been into the hobby for a few months, so hopefully it will improve over time.

    Cheers.

I didn't want to post too many pics in my first thread, but I have a few more angles of him which I'll add to my gallery when I can get it to work...

Shoot first....shoot again....annnnnnnnnd shoot some more, cause I think I saw his leg twitch.

Also, very mad props to aerion_the_faitful for making so many damn good drawings, esp. ones of Space Marines (and the one that I use for my Avatar)!

    Cheers for the kind words.

The main part of the model is the second incarnation of Valten, from the WHFB Empire range.
Other than that it's just a normal pair of SM legs and a tabard for the body.

The arms themselves were, for the most part, just the Valten model, though the bolter is obviously an addition (there was a small amount of plasticard work to connect the gun hand. Nothing substantial, just had to build the 'cuff' of his guantlet at the wrist).

Nothing really more to him him than a few purity seals and an whfb elven shield...

Cheers, though they're Irish, not Norse.

I have some pics of a few more minis for my east company, figured I'd be better posting them in here rather than making a new thread...

This one is more of a mock-up than anything else. He's the third mini I've painted and he looks it, but he's more of a reference for when I get around to building my chaplain proper, but for now, this is my head chaplain, Arawn Annw.

(Just wanted to point out that yes, i am aware my painting is a bit poo, especially on this model, but hopefully it's something that I will be able to improve on soon. )

The reason for the armour colour is that since my chapter has such a strong celtic influence, the chaplains, librarians and apothecaries are all classed as Druids, and as such will all be in white armour, with black, red or blue highlights, trim/cloak, etc, respective of their particular class.

I've just started building the first 'proper' model for my druid class, an Apothecary (more pics of him are on my photobucket), although I havent decided whether to greenstuff robes onto him or not yet, although I am leaning towards it.

    Next is my company Champion.

Not exactly an extensive conversion I know, just tweaked the Emperors champion model to make him fit with the theme of my army a little better. At least, that was the plan anyway...

This last one (I promise ), is of my w.i.p. venerable dreadnought, based loosely on the 'juggernaut pattern'.
There's still substantial work to be done to this one. Lots of greenstuffing left to be done and cloaks and furs to be added to it, as well as wires running from the head into the body. As with all of the others, all and any feedback appreciated.

    Cheers, glad you like it

Working on a few more dreads atm, hopefully I should have a few pics up in the next week or so. Set myself the task of making each one different, and preferably, slightly weirder than the last...

love the dread as well, though i think you shouldve mounted the legs onto the existing lower base that comes with the dread model

that way, you would have a pose that suggests more balance. even though your dready is looking pretty damn spiffy, it still seems like its gonna fall over if the wind starts picking up

    Narration:

Force Commander: "We need fire support against those damn heretics. Venerable Dreadnough [Insert Celtic Name Here]! Bring your heavy bolters to bear on the traitors!"
Venerable Dreadnough: "You will is my-"
    *Creaaaak, SMASH!*
Force Commander: "Aww Sh*t! Not again! Techmarine [Insert Celtic Name Here], please tell me you brought your winch again..."

Anyways, that's how I did mine. Just adapt the Sentinel legs to the lower dread torso, and position them so that it either A. shows motion or B. is standing tall and you'll get rid of that (IMO) problem.

But all in all, very sick army/painting/conversions

Hope to see an assault squad with irish-like warpaint on their helmets/faces in the future:w00t:
Shoot first....shoot again....annnnnnnnnd shoot some more, cause I think I saw his leg twitch.

Also, very mad props to aerion_the_faitful for making so many damn good drawings, esp. ones of Space Marines (and the one that I use for my Avatar)!

Well, my original plan was to mount the legs underneath it, but I didnt like how tall it made it, so I used the front half of an orc wartrukk that i had spare from another project and discovered it fits quite well to the underside of the dread.

Besides, as I mentioned, I want all of my dreads to look very distinct, and I already have a tall dread based on Warlord titan legs, so I wanted to lower this one as much as possible.

As for the assualt squad, I have a few guys in progress, but I want to finish painting a few tactical squads before I move on to them. Hopefully should have some assualt marines up in a week or so.
