I live in Australia, and can't seem to find a iron warriors warsmith mini. So i was thinking maybe i should convert a SM techmarine into one! I have one big question, are they plastic or metal? Also, are the servo-arms on the back or techpriests removeable? if so, that'd also work! Comments/Help appreciated
there metal all right. also if you want the backpack removable you will need a pinvice/rare earth magnets or wire to make it interchangable. I think that maybe the backpack on a worked up chaos marine would work, because i dont think it would be easy to convert a metal loyalist to a chaotic war smith. (i hate working with metal, id rather heavily convert palstic to represent metal equivelents)http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefr...312&orignav=10
this might help you out...
"This sure ain't no pansy Eldar Armor, Son"
185th Cadian Armored Div.
"One Shot, One Kill"
Western Border Patrol of Athel Loren
Last I checked you can order a warsmith from GW's online shop in their collector models section (I think, it's been a while) but you have to buy each individual piece seperately. I think mine cost about $20 US. Very cool model.
yes, but living in australia, the model (including shipping etc.) comes around to about 50$, somethings im not prepared to spend for a single model.
What I might suggest is to make a "DIY" techmarine instead of going for the huge hunk of pewter that is the new Techmarine.
What do I mean by a DIY techie? Metal Iron Hands parts + Tactical/Chaos Marine Plastics + Techpriest Enginseer Backpack/ Techmarine Full Servo Harness = Custom Techmarine. Instead of using a loyalist head, use a Iron Warrior's head and shave off all Imperial symbols, greenstuffing IW or Chaos symbology on.
If the above ifno not going to help you, just use Tactical/Chaos Marine plastic parts (like the ones you get off of the vehicle sprues), an IW head, and an Enginseer backpack. That should work for you if the above idea would cost too much/can't get the parts.
Alternativly, if you REALLY wanted to work with pewter, then do ahead and get the Direct Order Techmarine. His head can easily be clipped/sawed off and replaced with an IW head, of which the underside would be shaved off a bit to fit with the body. (You'll see what I mean if you choose to go this route.) You'll also need to sand off/convert all of the Ad Mech symbols into IW/Chaos symbols.
Hope that helps!
You could try using an Obliterator as the basis of your model. Because Iron warriors live in the warp I imagine much of their equipment has been warped so a strange fleshy look isn't out of the question. Having a larger size may also help to show the Warsmith is a Daemon prince, if you want him to be a Daemon prince that is.
Can'r you mail order him in Aus? Cos that's what I did in the UK, and he was only the price of a normal Lord inc P&P.
For those who dont know, here he is in all his glory:

Other options include what i've done for my Iron Warriors Possessed.
Iron Hands legs
Chaos Marines Torso
Fabius bile back pack
Bitz order pit fight saw arms or drill arms.
Total it comes out to around 15 a figure but they look good.
40K-Beakies(9-14-4),Guard(4-7-2),Orks(34-12-11). FANTASY-Dwarves(15-6-7),Beasts (14-14-1), Skaven (17-17-10) DoC (6-1-2). CYGNAR (28-15-1)
The servo-arms are either completely separate parts or are fused with the backpacks (which always are a separate part), depending on which model you're speaking about.
