So I'm going to paint some pink, and I was having some serious trouble with the color. Can anyone help me out? I need some assistance determining how to shade and highlight for pink. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
For highlighting, try a 2:1 mix of pink and bleached bone.
Not just kidding.
@craftman2 - Usually when highlighting, don't people use a lighter shade of the original colour? That's how I've always thought of it, anyways.. Have you done a search for a pink topic?
edit: Dug this up - hopefully it helps: click me!
Shade with red, highlight with white.
Proportions will be dependant on the depth of the shading and how light you want the highlights.
In most situstions I use pink sparingly *shudder*, it's the visual equivalent of a mouthful of sugar.

In regards to the pink experiment with blending white into red to get your base shade of pink and then add white and red in proportion for your various shades, remembering to write down the formula for each shade. i.e. 2:1 ratio of white to red, etc.
Otherwise consider what the Clown says and have a look at that link.
I think anyone who paints Emperors Children should know.

I think you shod shade with purple and not red, it will look better IMO. For a darker tone ad more blue. Also don’t use black under coat, its really hard to get a smooth color of pink with a dark under coat.
For pink I generally start off with Red Gore, then Warlock Purple (a very pink colour) and then add Skull White to the mix, til you hit the desired lightness of highlight.
I also find that when doing reds, you can get a good blend of colour using a slightly more watered down mix. It lets the previous colour show through a bit more, then the normal red consistency does the rest.
Hope that might help
But I call to God, and the LORD saves me.
If you are after a pink like I have painted on the left Mutant then I undercoated the model black because the majority of the other colours are very dark and needed to stay constant to my other models in the army, I repainted the pink areas with a thin coat of white just to make the base coat apply better which was a mix of 2:1 red & white then a very watered down red ink wash 4:1 to help the base colour look even, once dry I started to highlight the colour adding a little more white to the base mix each time!
Pink will only be pink if you use red and white IMO, if you add purple it becomes a pastel purple!
But I agree about the pink colours you can buy, they suck!
Hope this helped!
ok I think I have to clarify this...
I was only talking about the shading. Of course you shod mix red ad white to get the pick color and then ad more white for the highlights. But the problem is the shading, there are two way to shade pink IMO. First one is to ad more red and less white, then you will get shades that look a bit red.
Or you can go wit some blue and get a purple shade, I like the second one more because that will give more life to the model. But it will depend on the result you are after.
Mouthrax, IMO your pink looks ok, but I like to see more shades then that.
I shod have used a base of pink then use a purple wash (a purple that are not to purple...). Anther that I shod paint a few more layers of pink and start highlighting.
Ok this is what I think about this and everyone have right to think there own way. I’m not saying that I’m right...
Ahhhh I see what you mean now that would look good as an effect on the pink!
I might just give that style a try on a different squad, the key to it, I think is keeping a style through out, so once you pick a style whether it be blue, green or in this case pink the overall effect looks far better if every squad member is done in the same way!
Sorry if I sounded like I was cutting your advice off AndEng, it was unintended sir!
