Instead of getting 8 metal models, is it just as easy to put a plastic plasma gun in IG plastic hands?
Sometimes you have to roll a hard six.
well, some difficulty arrises, like getting the guns to fit in teh hands, to fit with teh chest, and to ultimately make it look like a comftorble pose
no, its not easer to convert them, but i think its cheaper
So far ive converted 9 plasma guns and 7 melta guns for my guard army by scrounging bits from friends, while it isnt easier, it is one hell of a lot cheaper, ive saved like £50 ish from doing this. My methods are thus....
Marine plasma or melta gun..... In the left open hand, right hand throwing grenade.... Simple as!
Plasma pistol, cut in half, and mount beneath a lasgun, hey presto underslung plasma gun!! Looks pretty good, and i havent encountered any problems with model rep.... Watch out on this one though as it may not be tourney legal....
Multi melta... The most complex, but well worth it! Take the plastic multi melta from the landspeeder sprue (everyone uses assault cannon and HB, so there are usually plenty lying around), half the melta end, and the ammo cylinders, so you have 2 melta ends and cylinders (instead of 1 multi-melta one), remove the clip and end of a lasgun, stick the melta end on (you guessed it) the end, and the cylinder on the side away from the body..... All Done!
Hope this helped!

It's very simpel really.
I have converted some models by taking an SM meltagun or plasmagun. Then I have taken the Cadian arms that is holding a grenade launcher and cut it off. Then I cut off a couple of milimeteres at the end of the gun so it fits against the gl-arm that is holding the trigger.
Glue it on and position the other arm in a good way and it's done!
Chaos players have on their Aspiring Champion sprues a smaller plasmagun than what's on the loyalist marine sprues and I find that they go better with regular guardsmen. Making it fit into a guardsmans hand isn't that hard either aslong as your hand is steady when you make the apporiate cuts.
i would suggest you read this, and look at the pics. it is a good example, and you might want to search forthe finished pictures too.
