Not sure if this should be here or in "modeling," but here goes:
I'm interested in scratchbuilding some ISTs for my growing DH army (tired of proxies), and the only thing I'm not sure about is the backpacks. Been looking at IG plastic bits and I can't find any that look right. The rucksacks for the Cadians don't quite do it. The catachan packs look better, but they've got the canvas "wrapped" around them, so I'm not sure about em.
Anyone else know a good backpack for this? I'm hoping to find something in plastic that I can order en masse (gonna need nearly 20 of 'em, I figure).
These are the only ones I could think of mate. The tallarn ones only come in the equipment pack, and the second link goes to the collectors mini's pages at the US GW site. The Old school IST packs are in here. hope i helped!

You can pick up some nice backpacks from the cadian upgrade packs from forgeworld, can either sell the other bits to keep the costs down or use them to make your conversions look better.
Another option I have seen is the vox caster from cadian boxes. Cut off the light and cut the transmitter in half (should be mostly base with a little bit stick out). Some like to move the transmitter base to the other side of the backpack some leave it where it is. Then trail some guitar wire from your backpack and armor joint (basiaclly just from under the backpack) to your make shift hell gun.
There used to be a really good post on one of these forums with a great way to turn plastic cadian guardsmens into Stormtroppers.
Cronk: I had already thought of your idea before, just wondering if there was something a little... better. Forge World backpacks don't really seem to suggest to me a "power pack" so much as the Voxes. I did salivate over FW's drop troop heads with the funky, unusual-looking respirator thingies, but after comparing prices for those to prices for heads elsewhere, I decided it was NOT worth it.
if you succeed in finding the right backpack, could you make your ISTs look delta-force-ish?
you know, red-dot sights, foregrips, all that tactical CQB stuff
for meeeee?
Shoot first....shoot again....annnnnnnnnd shoot some more, cause I think I saw his leg twitch.
Also, very mad props to aerion_the_faitful for making so many damn good drawings, esp. ones of Space Marines (and the one that I use for my Avatar)!
