I've finally finished painting my necron models with their base colours - boltgun (for the vehicles - i.e. destroyers, wraith and monolith), chainmail (for the actual body of the necrons) and white (for their shoulderpads and the destroyers faces/immortals faces). I know these are pretty standard colours but i just love them. Anyway on to the point ... What would you guys recommend as highlight colours and where abouts should i put them?
Also on a side note, my lord is purely white on his body that had a black wash applied to the recesses for a bit of shading before i painted him white. He also has an enchanted blue cape which was applied as a thin wash and then watered down for the next few layers. Any advice on him too would be good
Try to post some pictures - that will allow people to give you more valuable tips... Without them it is hard to judge how the models look - Two people can drybrush boltgun metal onto black and one will turn great whereas the other will just blow... Hard to tell from description though
post a pic, personally id have put another shade down before going to white, straight white is impossible to highlight you see, id have put either light blue or a grey and then shaded to white.
on the chainmail bodys id probably just drybrush a little mithril, as i cant really highlight metallics the usual way, but thats just me

White is difficult to shade. I'd avoid using browns/creams on necrons as it has to natural and biological an appearance. Work with blues and greys and build up the highlights to full white.
And get us pictures! They sound cool.
No more NG spearmen, thanks! Now I need some pump-wagons!
Hey, Well this is what i use for any metalics i have for my SM.
1. apply a layer of Bolt Gun Metal to desired area
2. apply a black ink wash
3. drybrush with chainmail
Hope i helped, Tim
Hi, thanks for your advice... I cant put up any pictures tho I think they look fine to me just with the drybrush, but ive read alot in here and ive noticed some people say that if its not highlighted then its not finished so i was just wondering what i could do to make them better. By all means they dont look bad, and considering it was my first army and im jsut like speed painting them so i cant play - they look real good.. I'll probl start asking questions about Tau in like 6months when i finally get around to painting my 2nd army which i will spend a yr or 2 on to get it to look good. For now tho, necrons are so easy to make look good with a black prime and then chainmail drybrush
