Welcome to Librarium Online!
I was looking at the print-it-yourself temporary tatoo paper, and i was wondering if that paper, or some other type of paper, could be used along with a bubble jet to make transfers for minis.
I have a burdgeoning Eldar army that really needs some runes, and my freehanding skills leave a lot to be desired, however, i can manage to make some transfers look good.
i'm painting my eldar in the Craftworld: Zahr-Tann scheme, but can't find any links their rune either, so i was going to design one in illustrator and go from there.
I went to america once and I have seen DIY transfer kits in the model section if you are UK then you should search in moddlling shops like model zone for one
DIY Inkjet decals do exist out there, but they're generally not regarded as being all that great.
The best option if you're looking to get some really good stuff is to hunt around and see if you can find a local hobby shop that has an ALPS printer to do custom decals. It is a bit of a rarity, but it's really the best way to go if you can find it. An ALPS can print any colour of the Rainbow, plus white (impossible for other methods) and even metallic silver and gold (also impossible for other methods)!!
And... if you can't find a local shop, you're in luck - I've got a local shop that'll do custom decals and ship anywhere! Their prices are good, their shipping is great (actually, since you're here in Canada, I believe it's FREE...), and I can personally tell you that their quality is excellent.
So try to find a local shop if you want, or give my guys a call - you won't be disappointed.
Decals might not be the only way to get great runes onto your models, especially if you want alot of your models to have similar runes.
Have you ever tried making stencils? Simply draw your design onto a thin bit of plastic or even paper, cut it out using a craft knife hey presto, you got a reusable stencil that was totally free!
It would end up being much cheaper to custom order decals. However the one snag is finding a legitimate decal manufacturer willing to do copyright decals for you. Now if you design your own... that is another story.
Otherwise the mention of the ALPS printer is a good one. The thermal printer is a great choice for decals... Of course you will probably be set back at least $100 so...
Order yourself some customer decals for much less! Or find some decal sheets that match close enought to what you want...
I ended up finding the following manufacturer of print-it-yourself paper http://www.bare-metal.com/decals/decal_paper.html but it looks like a right royal PITA. I think for 10 $ CDN , i'll get 15 different sizes of the same logos done at once and be done with it.

The bubble jet will not give you great quality and as already mentioned the colors will definitely be more limited.
You are better off just getting some custom decals made. They will be superior quality and end up consting less. Not to mention saving yourself all the hassle if things don't go the way you want.
1. My brother in law does custom decals on a standard HP inkjet using transfere paper of some sort, he gets reasonable results but keeps it very simple
2. The craft world you are thinking of made it first appearance onthe GW web site today/yesterday, there is no rune at the moment, cos they just made up a guardian colour scheme,. to the best of my knowledge there is no fluff etc. fill your boots
3. There is a custom Decal firm that do do GW txferes, fin the user Krakgrenade and email him, he used them for his howling griffins, they do generic non copyright too as well as custom from memory, the latter being pricey though
4. Look at kids transferes and Nail tatoos, there are many possible Eldar runes in those that are comparably cheap, since you are in greenfield teritory (no rune for the craftworld) you can select what you like
Everything you have been told is a lie!
I didn't realize there was no prior history for this craftworld SWEET! Creativity let's go nuts!
