Well i did a search and found no definitive answers... quite a few threads but couldn't get my answer...
Anyway, i have so far used Floquil as well as GW, and i HATE GW after using Floquil. Floquil rocks my socks. However, it is a) expensive and b) somewhat hard to find a store that carries it or has it in stock... so i come to ask, which brand do you like?
I've thought of krylon which is fairly inexpensive. 5 bucks for a can a little smaller than GW (vs floquils 5 bucks for the tiny kind). I've also heard good things about tamiya primers, but i've also heard it needs some technique (which i may not have as i;m a nub). Testors and modelmaster i've been advised to stay away from, only because they're not the best for minis (not that they suck in general).
black is the color i;m going for btw. suggestions?
im not familiar with non-GW paints, why is Floquil better?

I'm using black car spray (acrylic matt) it's 1/5 the GW spray price After spraying I cover the unpainted areas with Talens' Black Paint for artists - about $6 for 250ml (in a big tube )
Buying GW products is nonsense because of their price.
The only thing I use from GW is white spray - it's rather good and I got 3 cans for free. I started looking for a good white car spray too

i just started using Armory primer with decent results. The big thing that everyone has told me about it is to shake it THOROUGHLY! The first time especially, i shook it for probably 5 minutes until i could hear the metal ball bouncing around quite freely.
It's quite a bit more matt then the GW stuff (though i'm comparing black matt to white GW)
I find it goes on a little smoother, doesn't tend to get oversprayed, and i got decent coverage with two light coats.
Armoury primer is great, very smooth, especially the Grey color. GW primer used to be made by Krylon, they switched manufacturers though and now it's just paint, not primer. I've undercoated plastic minis with just paint before and it's not too bad, but metal figs need a real primer. Tamiya is good too, they have regular and fine. I've just used the regular so far and no complaints, but overall I prefer Armoury.
If that's the case, i've had a hell of a time finding any, none of the independent stores i go to have it, and the GW store that's close by hasn't seen it. Is it available to North America, and more specifically Canada?
I'm going to have to try the Grey and White Armory primers, after my positive experience with the black stuff, i think the rest of my armies should use it as well.
