I am haveing some trouble creating a winged Hive Tyrant. What are a few ideas as far as the assorrtment of wings, and such that i could use?
-Do not regret what you cannot change
The plastic Dragon wings that GW sell are always a good option, in fact I believe you can buy the two (tyrant + wings) as a bundle deal from the UK mail order. Link-->Games Workshop Online Store — Winged Hive Tyrant
You could use the wings off any other large model, for example the Bloodthirster or the LoC, but I think the dragon wings are beter suited to the tyrant. Other people have used translucent plasticard and cut it to make insect-like wings for their tyrant. There are some examples in LO's gallery so have a browse through there for ideas.
If you have lots of money and like Forgeworld, you can just buy a winged hive tyrant from them. Its a stunning model but it is expensive. Link--> FORGE WORLD
There are plenty of other miniature companies out there (reaper, rackham). Have a look around some of those online store and see if you find anything that you like the look of. Hope this helps.
and then theres always McFarlane dragons MCFARLANE DRAGONS - QUEST FOR THE LOST KING ACTION FIGURES, their wings are slightly bendy but I'm sure you could find a way to stiffen them, plus the first 2 series are really nice, past that they go down in quality some
I would tend to agree with rp252 in that you can't go wrong with GW dragon wings, plus they aren't that expensive either.
If you can find wings that you like on a toy, like the McFarlane ones Comm_Nagrom suggested, then go for those.
Either way, make them big, make them imposing...
The Balrog wings fro LOTR work really good with little modification.

I just scouted around town for a nice dragon. I finally found one in a toy store, it was a Bupo or someting... I felt like a dumbass buying it... but basically, just look around for dragon wings with nice detail on them. It is a lot cheaper and more unique than ordering the 'special' wings.
Then, you need to worry about putting them on. If you're not too concerned with fluff, you can just have them sprouting out from behind his arms, in a new socket, or coming out of his carapace. But, if you are concerned with consistency, then you want all of your tyranids to have 6 limbs each... NOT 8. To fit this description, you will need to do some extra converting, like mount a pair of scything talons onto his wings, or else give him two weapon-symbiotes on his two remaining hands, like 2 devourers in each hand for example.
I just created a new socket behind his arms, now he has 8 limbs and I'm fine with it. It';s up to you.
Tyranids: 2500 pts
Imperial Guard: 1000 pts
Witch Hunters: 1000 pts
You could always use those wings from the MegaBlocks Dragons...thats what I used...
Unfortunately if you do that you won't be able to play it in GW tournaments and stuff (and you may even be prevented from playing friendly games in GW stores!) as GW came up with this WONDERFUL decree that it will not sanction mixing LOTR and Warhammer stuff.
This has come up time and again, and no one has been able to supply any kind of URL or paper that states this any more.
I've asked the local GW shops around here, and they all say it's no longer the case, but they can't point me to a ruling either.
Does anyone know of any proof of this matter? I worry because my tyrant has balrog wings, and i'm not about to remodel them.
Incidentally, it was the GW employees that recommended those wings for my tyrant in the first place (and a few of them are tourney players) and i specifically asked this question.
