Am finishing up work on an Exorcist battle tank and want the thing to have heavy mud on the treads & a good deal of it sprayed and spattered on the armor. Does anyone have photos of someting similar that they might wish to share?
Which shade of brown is recomended? Is it advisable to mix the paint with PVA glue to give it vidcosity? How about mixing basing gravel with it?
And speaking of basing. . .do any of you base your vehicles? I imagine this would cause measurement nightmares during the movement and shooting phases. However, I would love to have my vehicles running down barbed wire barricades or rolling over enemy soldiers.
Owen Rees from WD muds up his Tahelian vehicles very nicely. I think he mixes scorched (sp?) brown, PVA and bits of grit and sand, then drybrushes it up once its applied.
There's an artice in UK White Dwarf 287 about building Imperial Guard tanks, and part of it is about a way to do mud, which looks quite effective. They modelled the mud onto the tank before painting, using a mix of static grass, ready mix filler, sand, PVA glue and water, which could be brushed onto the treads. Paint it in a nice dark glossy brown, and hey presto, your tank is churning up mud! Painting mud higher on the body in a lighter shade goes well with it, as this looks like its dried on.
Thou shalt remember:
Warhammer Fantasy armies do NOT have Codices. They have Army Books.

IF you look at the space marine codex I think you will find a little thing on how to paint mud with bestial brown and dwarf flesh for dried mud and new mud I guess you can say, also in the IG codex theres something with painting the treads a little bit with tin bitz.
Hope that helps.
This months FineScale Modler has an excellent article on this exact subject. Check it out!
