I'm looking to paint up a few squads of imperial fists. I was thinking of doing a white primer, then brush sunburst yellow and wash the creases with orange ink (mix of yellow and red inks). I want it to look similar to the 'eavy metal ones pictured on the tac squad box, etc. Any suggestions on how to crank out some good looking Imperial fists without putting 20 layers on?
P.S. Is sunburst yellow still available in a spray?

um, dont know if its a spray, id have to say no though, because the store by me only sells black, white and blue. On the yellow side, if you want the eavy metal quality, youd better be willing to put 20 layers of yellow on. Yellow is a tough color, because its so see through. If i had to do it, i would spray white, then put on yellow, then put a wash on how you desribe it. I would however, stay away from inks that dry shiney, because it looks so aweful when the creases are shiney. I would mix a orange paint, and then add just make your own ink with lots of water. It does the same thing, and doesnt fry shiney, which can make a world of difference on your guys....

i suppose the fists don't look too good in bright yellow, so i suggest to prime them in grey (or maybe that new GW spray "ogre flesh"). the yellow is considerably easy to paint on this primer, as it is on white, but the whole model gets a darker shade to it.

Im painting a Fist librarain for my freind and have painted yellows before.
I find vomit brown is a good colour to start from. Many thin layers of sunburst goes well. Once i am happy with the smooth coverage, i flesh wash (VERY WATERY) the area, then give it another coat of sunburst.

I would suggest starting bestial-then a light brown-vomit brown-sunburst-white (for hihglightis) this would cover each succesive paint in gradual layers and you could work some interesting shadows.

I prefer to use Golden Yellow for the Imperial Fists. Start with the white basecoat and work there, using Bad Moon/Sunburst (whichever is lightest, I can't remember) to highlight.
I just did this maybe a day or two ago. They came out great this way for me. Base them in white then take yellow ink dont thin down at all you dont have to or want to. Then after you paint up anything extra red shoulder guards, breathing vents, lining in, ex. give it a quick thined down chestnut ink wash 1part ink two parts water. Hope to see em finished and ready for battle soon.
