Folks.. I have been wondering and chatting to a few people. Now, do you think the LO contests I run are too long? I was thinking about cutting the time period down to a month. I have been told people just leave something to the last minute this way and it's often rushed - they feel too secure with the time they have then suddenly.. deadline.
So, would you like a monthly one instead? I do see the problems here, might get few people entering or lesser quality. But, a month to paint a single miniature is still an awfully long time. And most can pull out a decent quality mini in a month - depending on the time spent on it.
So.. the question. Please answer and explain why. I will be postponing the new one until this is agreed upon, it will close Friday and new one posted Saturday. So you have a few days to chat about it all.
I'd like to see one month long contests - anyone actually dedicated to entering an entry should be able to get all of the necessary parts and be able to paint, etc. the models within the space of a month, in my opinion. That's quite a long time, if you are dedicated to painting/converting something.
Also, it would mean that there would be a few more contests, hopefully.
Well, I'm one of those people that work better with a bit of pressure.
With these 2 month contests, I tend to spend the first 4-6 weeks thinking:
Oh, I have ages before I need to start that mini for the LO contest!
...before my real life catches up with me and I end up not managing to get anything finished.
Now, while it may seem counter-intuitive for me to want you to reduce the time available, I find that if I 'only' have a month to do something, I will start work on it pretty sharpish, and probably spread the work out more evenly over the time, meaning I have much less chance of a busy RL week destroying my chances of finishing.
As you say, a month *is* quite a long time, most minis I work on usually only take 4-7 evenings, so if I am anything like anyone else, it shouldn't be too much hastle.
Anyway, that is what I think.
A month is fine, and while it might result in a few less entrants, you will have (about) twice as many contests, so maybe things will pick up after a while!

I agree as well. One month is plenty. Those that can't enter - well so what. There are plenty of times when for whatever reason they can't enter in 2 months either. I myself am one of them.
From a turnout standpoint I don't think you will have any less entries just because things are done in a month time period rather than 2. Who knows you may get more entries...
Nuff said. I am tired and I might start to ramble so... :w00t:

I'd like to see monthly purely on the fact that we should get to see great models every month, rather than every other month lol. You should have run a christmas one and see who could have made the best Santa Claus

I was inclined to say keep it as it is, but then I realised, the actual painting/converting is relatively quick. Most of the two months is taken up with me trying things out to get ideas. So really, one month should be fine, and twice as many competitions!

I´m someone who works better under some pressure (still have to paint 1000pt Necrons before 14 jan).
I say 1 month is good.

whilst 1 month of time is plenty to complete an entry, 12 competitions a year is too much. No way will i be able to enter every contest. I think you run the risk of saturating the forum with contests.
Plus if they're monthly, part of the month has to be for voting, say a week for voting. All of a sudden you have 3 weeks to do the contest.
My suggestion is 6 week comp, 1 week vote, 1 week rest til the start of the next contest.
