This will be a summarized version of the super pic heavy thread over at ATT.. but I cant help but be proud of it, and post a string of pictures.... yet again. Hope you enjoy it!
This all started with a concept art of some Tau thing... IT could be a Sniper prototype, or some Jetbike, or even maybe a heavy weapons platform... Either way, I really REALLY wanted to convert one! Heres the pic:
Cool, huh? For the longest time I've wanted to make this, but at the timethere were soo many difficulties to doing it: First, the Firewarrior pose was completely undoble, and would have to have been made from scratch, Other things, like what gun or bit assembly could make the gun, etc.
But then, the Piranha kit was released, and recently I built one, and got familiar with its parts in doing so. Suddenly, I realized that I had a lot of the difficult parts of the 'jetbike' provided unaltered right in front of me! So, I excitedly put some crude protoype pieces together, just to see if the firewarrior and gun (broadside Railgun) were of a proper ratio, and so on... keep in mind this next ugly pic is a 'proof of concept' assembly, and in no way reflects the final design (so dont close this thread yet!!)
Things looked good so far, and it was time to get a little serious.. Flipping through the 50 pound Complete Hobby Reference book, I was on the hunt for a good replacement for the Piranha engine 'chassis'... and found the Eldar Vyper sprue. and a couple of things hit me: The nosecone would be a good hull, and the eldar bike seat/saddle, complete with footpad 'stirrups' made this the thing to go and get.
These next few pics shows the evolution of the Bike seat, to the near final setup (The final final looses the top two cushions on the FWs chest, making it rest more naturally)
And the seat was the easy part. Next came the Hull and Wing mod. The hull was far to 'vertical' to suit my purposes, and additionally flared out too wide. In addition, it looked to Eldar. The wings were simply two Piranha Wings, butted together, with the railgun fitted between them just right. the following string of pics shows the evolution of this. Note the Piranha Dashboard added to the 'Cockpit'
..And this leaves me to where I am at now, with the following fully fleshed out, yet unglued and undetailed, Tau Jetbike:
With this above Side by Side Comparisson, You can see that I didnt get it exactly right, but held true to the spirit of the thing, and made something wickedly KEWL nevertheless!
And as a Side note, the Size comparison (since the actual size is kinda hard to visualize.. it is tiny, but rather than describing how small, lemme just show ya!)
looking good i like it

That looks totally awesome and hilarious at the same time. I really like the thought of a railgun zooming about, though I can only imagine how much of a target it'd be. And I can picture them drawing lots before a battle. "okay Bill, it's your turn to be strapped to the flying railgun." "Aww man..."
"You challenge me knowing that I am Xiahou Dun!?"
That is an amazing conversion, much better than i have ever done
i would hope to see that in an equally decent paint job
however, i think you should remove the wings entirely, they make it seem more like a plane then a bike
and i do ask myself, how does it remain in flight while firing the railgun when it takes a tank to fire one standardly
That concept drawing and model you made from it are looking great so far. Prehaps you should show the top people at GW the concept drawing, looks really high qulality like the speeder you've made.

I believe the drawing is from GW in the first place... as the original picture had it in a glass display case next to 'new' Tau models.. at some gamesday or tournament event.
