Welcome to Librarium Online!
Well yesterday I decided to take a trip to my local comic shop where they sell 40k, and bought some Kasrkin models. I left my paints in my dorm, so ive got about a week or so to think up a color scheme, but that's where my trouble is.
Originally I was thinking of painting the armor black, and the clothing shades of blue. But the more I tihnk about it, i think i can do better. I picked blue because for some reason im better at shading blues or greens than any other colors. So i know I want some blue in the mix, but I need another color for the armor than black, but something that'll look good with blue.
Otherwise, assuming I do blue armor, what color should i make the clothing, or mix of colors.
Let me know if anyone has any suggestions. Kinda stumped. And if anyone has any other color schemes they've been wanting to use but haven't been able to do, let me know and i'll see what i think.
P.S.- Hopefully i'll get to talk to someone who i just recently found out won a Golden Daemon trophy at a competition and works at my local hobby store. Gonne see if a friend will go with me tonight and get some tips, maybe he has a good color scheme I can use.
maybe a light grey, for an cold theme?
its funny, i am also better at painting blues and greens as well.... i am doing an urban scheme for mine, and i use greyish blues with dark greys and black for the pants and under jacket. Blue can be used for a winter scheme to
"This sure ain't no pansy Eldar Armor, Son"
185th Cadian Armored Div.
"One Shot, One Kill"
Western Border Patrol of Athel Loren
Haha! I spent three armies using mainly blue - there must be something about it which makes it that little easier/nicer to shade.
Anyway, scheme suggestions - a lot will depend on base/environment you want to do (as mentioned above) Blue really fits winter, urban and swampy/watery environs. As with any imperial guard model you have to ask whether you want realistic camo or ceremonial (a la mordian iron guard). Obviously the latter will allow most any colours. For camo though... I did a guard army (one of the above three) whose clothes where dark blue with patches of white/ lighter blue/ grey. The armour was then mainly black, though I found that a little too dull and made a shoulder pad bright white. Thats the kind of thing that you wil end up with if you're doing urban schemes.
A nice scheme I've seen for winter was basically blue robes with white armour.
Few suggestions, hope they get the grey matter stirring!
Theres nothing false about this monkey. I'm simian through and through.
My Nipponese Dogs of War Army:
i think the Kaskrins look good with a camo sceme on their uniforms and a flat colour on the body armour- maybe a blue/grey urban camo with a navy blue for the body armour and helmets?
Personally my Guard army had units wearing scarlet jackets and white trousers as they were themed around British 19th century troops so my Kaskrin carried that through with Camo green equipment- one thing i like about these models is that they can carry off a more unusual scheme pretty well

You guys all have great suggestions.
I was first thinking of the black armor/blue clothing mix, but i was worried about the black armor. I was thinking of highlighting it with blue, but i thought that would be too much overkill with the blue. However, i might do a test model with that scheme, as well as the scheme theobold suggested. I like the grey/blue trousers idea with the blue armor. I have done something similar with a Kasrkin sargeant i bought separately, and it came out ok, but with a better design i think i may pull off a great model.
Otherwise I was tihnking of a sceme like this:
Have the clothing black, highlighted with grey like the horse, and have the armor green with various designs and highlights like the horsemen. Sofar i'm liking that idea most, however I need to think of some designs for the armor that aren't difficult but would make then kasrkins look really good.
Gonna go think of some basic fluf for them if i can, or some kind of designs for the armor. Lemme know if u have any suggestions for any of the above,
