Can anyone reveal their secret on how to paint eye balls? blood-shot eye ball?
Anyway I paint the eye like this.
1 First I paint the base color of the face, then I start whit the eye before I finish the face.
2 I paint the eye white or a of white color, I do it quite messy it doesn’t matter I will fix that later.
3 I paint the eye the color that I want, black work but you can use brown or blue as well. Remember that you want the eye to show, so you shod use a color that fits with the skin/helm. Don’t use to watered down paint but it shod not be dry. The white shod only show on the left and the right of the eye (assuming that he/she is looking straight fore word). if you like you can paint a little reflection spot, like the reflection on a gem.
4 I use a darker skin color that I careful ink around the white.
5 I fix the mess around the eye and finish the face.
Its important that you use a brush whit a fine tip... really important
Hope this was what you asked for...
I paint the eye SpaceWolf grey, then when it's dry I use really watered down Scab Red, so it runs down the recesses and leaves the bulb grey with a redish taint. Before the Scab Red has dried completely, when it's wet just where the deepest recesses are I gently point a very finebrush with Blod red...like just point it down, not paint - let the water suck the paint from the brush. When it's all dried just paint the top of the bulb Skull white.
When the white has dried add a black point where you want the Iris, for this I use a pen.
Finish it all of with a touch of Gloss varnish, eye only.
I'm sorry I did not make my question clear >_<
I modelled a few eyeballs using GS (just rolled them into a ball), and I'm using them to decorate my Chaos/Tyranid base.. I've seen people paint their eye ball realistically with blood veins showing. I'm just wondering how to achieve the actual effect, and if there is some secret behind it.
You can use the marble effect on it, watered down red ink ( if there is such thing =/ ) then matte gloss
I get the basecoat on the face then paint the area of the eye black. Then in the middle of the black I make my white slash for the eye. Then I put in the pupil usually black for simplicity. I fix the pupil size with the white around it, fix the white with the black and fix the black with the flesh basecoat, then finish hte face.
"...and we shall pave our path to the gods with the Skulls of our fallen foes."
This is the picture where it got me inspired, but also left me totally awed.
The flesh and eye ball which has a few transparent vein in it. Anyone know how to perform such a feat?
I guess that would be me ; )Anyone know how to perform such a feat?
To get te veins look realistic it's important to work with wet paint. First do like I said in my earlier post, but stop after the white, do not use gloss just yet.
When the White has dried you add a very watered down layer of Blood red, and then when that floats of the bulb and gathers in the rescesses make some very, very fine lines with something like Shadowy grey or a dark blue. Then continue making fine veins with scab red and finally blood red.
It's good to add a fine line of SR in the SG before it completely dries. And those "lines" are not really closed lines, they are more like imaginary lines made up from small, but long, dots of paint. When you made to many veins (and belive me that is bound to happend) you paint some very watered down white in spots, you can smudge those with your finger if you wish, then add a dot of less watered down white in the still wet. Repeat until satisfied, then just go crazy with the Gloss Varnish.
Since your eyes are to be seperated from the head, I recommend a small string of GS to be attached to the backside, like a nerve. Make sure it's around it that the Scab Red-est layers are.
Good luck, and I'm glad you got inspired.
Wow, thanks so much for sharing your technique
I am glad I get to see your work, alot of stuff you put on that Defiler is really inspirational :w00t:
