Hi, I bought a bulk pack of vallejo paints from ebay and have a question about 2 of the bottles it contained.
The first is a glaze medium, what is it for?
The second is a crackle medium. Again whats it for? Im hoping it will give a peeling paint effect, but dont want to ruin a mini if someone knows for sure!
If you look on the vallejo site (i was looking a few days ago), it says about the crackle medium that you put it under a layer of paint for the effect to work. Ill find the rest of the info.
CRACKLE MEDIUMWaterbased medium which is used between two coats of paint to create a weathered effect, or as a final coat to create a transparent crackle surface. (Please see “ Arte Deco Techniques ” for more detailed information).
Characteristics: Crackle Medium is a clear liquid, which dries to a transparent film, which will crackle if applied on an acrylic base of either paint or primer.
Application: With a soft brush or sponge, without reworking.
Packaging: In 17ml. Bottles, (boxes of 6). Ref. 70598.
This is whats on the site.
and heres the link.... Acrylicos Vallejo
Just look at the auxilary section it gives information on all their weathering/tint etc products.

Glaze medium is used for what it says, glazes. Basically, it's a substitute for water and has the added properties of removing the water tension and so allowing it to flow easily into the gaps. Not to be used for normal painting but for washes and glazes (very, very thin washes).
I believe so. If not, someone will come along to correct me. =P
I see you got your sets from ebay, are the model colour or the game colour range? I have found a few stockists of model colour in the UK but none that sell the game colour range, even looking at the creative models site which is the official stockist fomr the vallejo site.
So where can i get the game colour range in the UK?
I love using glazes on metallics- you can do heaps with them there. They can be handy for subtly altering other colours too, but trickier to use. Try the crackle medium on your painting tile (or whatever you use) to see how it works. That way you can try different amounts and layers.
No more NG spearmen, thanks! Now I need some pump-wagons!
The metallic medium that they do seems like it might be interesting to experiment with, being able to produce pretty any shade in a metallic could make form some intresting armour/weaponry.
Well i tried he crackle medium on a space marine pad. Silver on the bottom, waited till dry, covered with the medium, waited till it dried, then put black over the top. Now in fairness, it did crackle. A tiny bit. Like 2 of 3 hairline cracks. Does anyone know how to get better results?
Thanks for the glaze link. I think im going to try that out on my bonesinger robes today.
