Welcome to Librarium Online!
Some time ago I came across an article about a guy who made 32 1x1 foot peices of tiles city terrain. They had a brownish river, ruins, craters and lots of really good lookin stuff.
Me and my friend are gonna start our own terrain project, and we too are going to make it tiled. So I thought we would use that masterpiece of wargameboard as inspiration, but I just cannot find it.
Anyone can help me find the link to that 32 piece table? Would be so appreciated!
Sorry, I do not know the article, but there are some general tipps on the GW sites that are very good. For example a guide on planning, building and painting a city from the very beginning up to its final stages. Click!
I'd recommend reading this anyway and maybe searching the GW sites a bit. There you can always find some inspiration or helpfull ideas. Anopther example... Various terrain pieces Click!

My club has been contemplating a redesign of our own Cityfight terrain. And the concept of a tiled table has been a strong issue with us as well.
However, 1' x 1' seems to be too small for us, we've come up with a modular design based on a 16"x16" block, each block incorporates 1 of 3 road sections built in. It makes for a larger than standard table (48" x 80") but that's okay so far.
The whole thing is still in the design phase though, so we might still adjust the concept. I'm in the process of researching linoleum tile sizes at HomeDepot, to use as a base.
What you might be talking about is the table designed by miniature scenery : Linky
Which is a pretty cool deal, but expensive.

a good idea for a modular board based on tiles is cork tiles. they're cheap (i got a few for $10), they're tough, they're flexible, and they nake great rubble when you crunch em up. they come in 1'x1', and theyre about 5mm deep (good for a nice clean kerb.) and, as i i said... theyre cheap
