I've startes on this Assault Chaplain based on Lemartes. I've given him a nice make over, but there's still something to fix up.
I'm sorry for the bad picture quality, I'm a crappy photographer. And yes the color is very thick in some places.
As you may see he's missing his weapons. Does anyone have any ideas, as he's not Blood Angel I can't use the ones that came with. I thought a bit around the jump pack, and I actually don't like the SM ones. I could give it a makeover, but do you have any ideas? I've given the havoc packs a thought, but would it work?
The paintjob isn't done yet. Still I'm out of ideas for the colors. the tubing at the mouth area should be given a not too bright but still visible color. The colors of my chapter is Catachan green and white, but the command squad and veterans are painted with black armour.
Any ideas are welcome.
A nice easy way to make a Crozius for a Chaplain is to get a piece of plastic (or metal) rod and attach a banner pole top to the end to act as the mace head. These banner pole tops can be found in several places:
Some from the space marine command squad sprue (clicky!)
Battlewagon Bits Backpack Shrine Icon bits Space Marine
Battlewagon Bits Crozius Eagle Icons x2 Chaplain Bits
Battlewagon Bits Imperial Eagle Aquila Icons x2 Bits Space Marine
Battlewagon Bits Ultramarine Accessories Icons x2 Bits
One from the Black Templars upgrade sprue
Battlewagon Bits Black Templars Skull Backpack Icon bits
For one of my Chaplains I bought Grimaldus and cut the head off his Crozius head (it has a symbol very similar to my chapter symbol on it). This produced an awesome, but rather expensive, Crozius Arcanum.
Some from the new Dark Angels sprues
Battlewagon Bits Dark Angels Ravenwing Reaper / Watcher Ornaments x2 Bits
Also, some of the older back banners and DA standard bearers (the old metal models - check the classics DA range on the GW website if you're interested) have some suitable bits that could be used - would be much cheaper than buying a whole Ravenwing Sprue.
A banner top from the normal Terminator box
Battlewagon Bits Crux Terminatus Icons x2 Bits
Two banner tops from the Assault Terminator box
Battlewagon Bits Terminator Halo Back Icons x2 Bits
Battlewagon Bits Terminator Imperial Laurel Back Icons x2 Bits
Also have alook at some of the Chaos stuff - with some modifications they can be used for Crozius heads. And some of the WHFB plastics have good bits to use - especially the Chaos warrors sprue. If you don't like any of these ideas you can always make your own Crozius head by using a skull with an iron halo, an Aquilla or any other scratch built head of appropriate size. Loads of options to get you going there.
There are several Jump packs you could use. For example, Captain Shrike has a suitably ornate jump pack, as does the current metal jump-chaplain. Alternatively you could decorate a normal one with putiry seals, skulls, wings etc - the new ravenwing sprue and DA vets sprue would be good for this. If you do not like the SM jump pack you could go for a Raptor one like you mentioned. If you go down this route you must be careful to remove all Chaos symbols from the pack and decorate it to look more like loyalist technology (using the idea above if you like). Another option would be to give him a jump pack with large wings - there are several sets of good size wings in the GW range you could use for this (yeld wings, the swooping hawks wings etc). Though it is definately the most work-intensive of the options it could end up with stunning results.
Whatever you do, please post up some pictures when you have finished. Good luck buddy.
Thanks, the wing sounded nice, as for the Crozius I think I've got some ideas. Does anyone know the format of the Swooping Hawk wings. Are they a possibility? The pegasus wings are far too big. hmm, but you had some nice ideas there.
Well, the new DA sprue has a mace on it. In my opinion it could easily pass as a Crozius.
The Cities of death buildings have some sort of eagle statue. It's quite a small bit, but that also could be used as a Crozius.
The Crozius is finnished, will post some pictures on it tomorrow. It's made of the Terminaor captain banner top, the eagle sitting on the skull, with som green stuff effects added. I checked out the Swooping Hawk wings finding them too Elfish. How's it with the Great Eagles, are their wings coming separatly or are the fixed to the model?
