So i paint up my chaplain and really like how the robes. I painted him on the same coloring bike as the tech marine-salamander style, then his armor is black, and his rob is a mix of greyish black ink with highlights. So i stepped back and looked at him and he totally looks weird. as the details are picked out gold on the bike and chaplain and now he looks like a CSM from the black legion with a greyish robe on a green bike???
Any advice for painting chaplains? Should i not try to tie the bike in with the rest of the army?

I think as he is a Chaplain the bike could quite easily be painted in a predominately black scheme and look good. If you are not happy with the look of the green bike than paint it in 'Chaplain' colours and pick out details as you see fit.
It is fair to say that this fits the fluff - Chaplain armour is generally not painted in the Chapter colours so you could quite easily apply that to his bike as well. Sometimes the only reference to the Chapter on the armour of a Chaplain is the Chapter symbol on the left (if power armoured) pauldron. As long as the Chapter symbol is on there somewhere I dont see a problem.
Its up to you at the end of the day mate. If you don't like him as he is you could try and go with a Chaplain-scheme bike. A few pictures of the model might help people give ideas, any chance of one or two?
A brief glance around the old RT fluff will tell youthat chaplains used to be parly their own chapter colours and part black, if you can find it there was a table that detailed about 8 or so of the more promenant chapters and by armour plater (R leg, L leg, groun, abdomen, chest, R Arm, L. Arm, backpack and head i think) gave balck or chapter colour.
Later everything turned black.
So you have fluff that would support either approach, it principly comes down to visual effect, which would be a lot easier to judge from a picci
