I'm having trouble finding the parts I want/need for my Hardened Veterain squad.
I want to base them off the Sharpe TV films, with Richard Sharpe in command. IE: This lot: http://www.southessex.co.uk/images/chosenmen_lge.jpg
For the whole unit, I'm giving them all Empire handguns and Pat Harper a Repeater handgun (aka 7 barrel volley gun)
Appart from that, I'm stuck for what bits to use
For the heads, you can probably use some from the bretonnian knights sprue(the ones without the helmets). I would suggest commissar bodies for the torso. The Imperial Guard Lieutenant legs(any of them) are good too. This will require a lot of cutting metal though.
Since you already have a squad of handgunners if you want to use their guns I would recommend to mix these with your regular IG. Do you use Cadians?!
Buying all the metal minis as MechaEmperor suggested sounds a bit too expensive to me and as he said this includes a lot of metal sawing.
You could try and sculpt the band around their chest and the hats with GS. Even if your GS skills weren't the best at the moment (I don't know them, maybe they are already great!) you should be able to sculpt some additional details in the end. This could make your guys appear to be even closer to the pic. The heads of the handgunners should be a good base as well, although removing some plastic (!) helmets may be necessary. Also straightening the hangunners' legs may be necessary, or you exchange them with Cadian legs. straightening them would be another thing to achieve with GS that could improve your skills. Using the Cadian legs you could include the cloth around their haunch into the clothes.
My recommendation would be to look at some Cadians and some hangunners and thin k of whether this could work. Seeing them in reality should make this much easier.

The plan is to very carefully cut the arms off the handgunners and attach them to Cadian torsos and try to sculpt the shoulder pads out of GS.
I'm not to worried about the hats. I think Harris and Cooper were the only ones who wore thier hats nearly all the time.
I'm thinking some FW Cadian veterain bits are in order. These guys: Cadian Hardened Veterans Upgrade Pack
Two of thoese heads would be perfect for Cooper/Perkins and Harris with a bit og GS work
The main problem I'm having is finding heads for Sharpe and Harper
Any suggestions on what to use for these two?
sculpting napoleonic style guard isnt too difficult, the mordians are probably the best base and with a little head swapping and hat resculpting (cut off the brim and add a tiny ball of green stuff for the slouch cap). The officers and sarges have some frogging aswell (tassles and stuff actually!).
Alternatively get a few foundry figures with the right uniforms weapons etc and 40k them up a bit with eagles etc
theres a few of the sculpts ive done for a bit of inspiration, pics arent great (they look all shiny for some reason!)
hope that helps
Maybe it's just because it resembles an earlier period (whichever one you might want it to) but I think that the pieces that you have shown would look great in, say, Space 1889 (anyone out there play that?) or any other Jules Vernesque period game.
Sorry, I didn't explain myself fully.
I'm going to use Empire Handguns on Cadian Torsos and legs. According to GW staff, they should fit perfectly.
I shouldn't really say my Veterains are based on Sharpe and the 95th Rifles, but rather inspired by them.
Rules wise, Sharpe is the sargent with the Honarifia Imperialis and power sword, but armed with a lasgun (as he should be)
Harper is going to be a regular trooper armed with a shotgun, while the others with be armed with lasguns (aka converted empire handguns)
I'm just wondering what heads to use really. Prefrably in plastic, but metal is awesome too
The rest of my army is going to be organised in a similar manner to the British armies of 1815. And if anyone has a link to a website with details of how it was organised, that would be great
well if you can get hold of an eldar sprue there is a nice long haired head on their which looks ok on guardsmen. other than that try empie militia style heads for the average guys, theyve got some young and some old, youll have to avoid the bearded ones though!
And as someone said the bretonian sprues have a decent amount of heads with long hair. Also try the catachan sprue, the heads are god to greenstuff hats on or just leave as is, they are also guardsmen so will fit right in (plus the spares on the sprue will be very useful!)
I think I've got a few High elf heads spare (Without the helmets) Which would be damn near perfect for Hagman.
I'm planning on starting these conversions on saturday, as well as making a start on my rough riders.
