    forgeworld bloodthirster horns

    Hi folks-

I'm finally painting the forgeworld bloodthirster, but I'm not sure how to get the right effect on the horns. I like how the studio version is painted Bloodthirster Greater Daemon of Khorne.

How did they do this? Is it a basecoat of black, drybrushed with bleached bone, with a black ink wash over the lower part of the horns to make them darker at the base? I don't want to mess this up as this model cost me an arm and a leg.

Not sure how they've done it, but I do like this when I paint horn/bone:
Black base, then like you said drybrush Bone -but make sure the brush is dry and it's bristles are separated, vdon't want it to become all cloggy and spotted.
Then mix a wash with brown and black and very much water add to the whole thing.
When it's dry you drybrusch again, with a little Skull white mixed into the BB.
Another wash with more brown and less black.
Then you basically repeats this adds more and more SW to it and drybrushes less and less, further and further out, adds more brown to the wash and washes less and less closing in on where the horn meets the head.
