    Tank tasks

    Hi:

So, I've done a search and can't find any threads on this. Just curious: Anyone ever actually try to build tank models from scratch, i.e. Bandblade, Leman Russ, Land Raider (particularly the Land Raider)? If so, how well did it work, and can you post pics?

    Just curious.

whoa, a Baneblade from scratch? That's something I'd like to see as well.

It just occurred to me that there are millions of possibilites out there in the world of WW2 and modern tank kits that could be used for a Baneblade conversion. Hmmmm........

I know we have a scratchbuilt baneblade at our club. It was built ages ago when GW released a set of drawings on it in WD. Those might still be out there somewhere (ie google) It looks good for being so old, I mean modelling and painting has taken some serious leaps since this (early 90-ies).

EDIT: I know the Fifth Horseman has built a Dread out of cardboard, it's on his site - you'll find a link in his sig.

The Fifth Horseman? Is he on LO? I can't find him in the Members List.

Well, Games Workshop does have this wonderful article about a scratch built Stormhammer.

I made a ruined Leman Russ as a terrain piece a little while ago. The body is mostly made out of foam trays (the kind that meat always comes on at a supermarket) and the sponson and turret are made out of plasticard. I used various pen lids for the battle cannon, but it isn't very good and I'm sure someone else could do better. The lascannon and HB sponson are from heavy weapons squads. The only actual tank bits used are the treads, the tread guards and the dozer blade I believe.

    g'day

i have scratch built both a land raider and a shadow sword. (well 90% built them) still waiting to do the weapons on the LR and the tracks and weapons on the SS.

the shadow sword was going to be my entry for the machines of war comp, but i never got it finished in time (2 weeks start to finish was a bit ambitious)

have no pics of the SS yet, but here are some of my landraider. will try and get some pics of the SS up tomorrow (guns and roses tonight)

    Cheers

    g'day

uploaded a few pics of the SS after the gunners concert (was kick ass, well worth the $100)

as far as advice goes, the best i can give is use a metal ruler, a really sharp knife (brand new), a bit of sand paper (clean the edges after you score and snap the plasticard), try and use 1mm plasticard (any thicker and it seems to get a "peel" after snapping, any thinner and the glue can melt a fair bit of the card.)

and practice. the LR was my second attempt scratch building anything (first was a drop pod, which was way to fiddly to bother finishing, will try and dig the pics up either off the computer or here.) the SS is my fourth attempt at scratch building anything, and i think ive done a better job of it than the LR, enough so that im thinking of scratch building the guns for it (have bought bits off ebay to finish the LR im just lazy)

i will post pics of it finished and painted after i get back from holidays in early july, until then i wont do bugger all because i have to work my arse off to get some money to take my brother across the country to watch a few games of rugby, and hopefully another gunners show, for his 21st

anyway its late (2:30am), im pissed(gunners), and i start work in 4 hours so i better get the tickets to gunners over east, get the pics up and goto bed.

    Cheers
