Ok so after about 8 hours of painting, my first Carnifex is done.
This is the first time in 8 years I've touched a warhammer 40k figure let alone paint one.
There you have it. I tried to do the effect seen here With moderate success. Comments and suggestions always welcome. btw Thanks to the people who told me how to make 2 TL devourers and the people who answered my dumb newbie questions.

Looks really good.
It's a nice (apparently) simple scheme, but there's still lots of depth in it.
About the only change I'd make is the lighting for the pic itself, so show even more of the detail.

For a first time painter it is a nice very nice model you have made!
Now it is time for two comments:
A)As mpdscott mentioned the lighting of the picture must be improved and...
Smoking can kill you... (and I am a smoker!)
Thanks to all the people showing faith in me
I sometimes feel that everyone will leave me and they will be on their own...
About the Carnifex. I think it is off to a very good start but there is still more you can do with a minimum of effort. You can really improve the look of that carapace in a very easy way. Take a small drybrush and some white paint. Apply the paint very lightly on the edges only of the carapace. The idea is to get a kind of highlight or enhancement of the carapace.
Another thing you can do is work on the joints, those bits which look sort of like tubes and so on. Choose a colour of ink that you like. Best to use a dark ink though. Then take a fine detail brush and apply this ink to the joints and so on. This will help to add in some more depth to the model.
