I've noticed that when painting metallics many players use tin bitz as a basecoat and then drybrush the other metal colors over it.
Can someone give me a little more info as to what tin bitz is? (other than the obvious "it's tin")
tin bitz is a color similar to rust or dirty copper. drybrushing over it will cause it to be seen slightly giving the figure an aged look. Its what I use for my necrons with boltgun over and looks very nice even with amature skill such as mine.

It's also a very nice colour to use in conjunction with others when you are going for a gold/bronze effect.
What you do is use the base coat of tin bitz and then highlight the raised edges with Brazen Brass. This works really well. You can then add whatever ink's you feel appropiate. I use the Orc Ink that i posted in the Top painting tips bit.
Well, assuming you know that it is a citadel metallic paint colour, Tin Bitz is a very dark browny-metal colour.
People often use it as a base-coat for metallics because it is dark enough to act as shading, yet still has that metallic glint, maintaining the shiny appearance of the metal.

I <3 Tin Bitz. I use it as abase coat when i am doing a rustic un-refined gold look or when i am doig work brass. For gold its pretty simple. Bas coat of bitz and then i start mixing in burnished gold and dry brush till i get pure gold. For an awseome brass effect, i start with (scorched brown)>(scorch/tin)>(tin/bestial)>(bestial/shining gold)>(shining)>(shining/burnished) I always keep each high light towards the edges. The tin makes it look really old and worn.
