Got back from Europe and decided to start painting again. Let me know what you think!
just a link now because I'm too lazy to change the pic, will do so later.
I think you know where you are going with the colour scheme of your model. I think you should work on your shading and highlights. At the moment the red looks very flat on that Chaos marine. You could easily improve this with a little highlighting. I would use blazing orange. Apply the paint with the edge of a fine detail brush along the edges of the red areas.
You could also try a littl shading. Areas like where the top of the kneepad joins the leg. Apply a small amount of watered down black in there and you will find the model is more life-like. I would also be helpful of you to post maybe one of two more images of your Chaos folk if you have painted any others and some explanation as what you want them to look like.
I think it looks sweet, the white and red colours look as thought he paint is way to thick, though it's probably the bad image quality, and I think that the purple/black areas look as though they look better in real that on this picture because I think they do look neat, however the bad image quality does it injustice!
A Tau Ethereal was thought to have been killed today by a Bloodthirster. However, many Tau were seen fleeing the scene and are considered suspects.
Thanks for the comments everyone. This was painted using WalMart acrylics, so that's why the paint looks a little thick. I recently (yesterday) bought 6 bottles of Reaper colors: Black, White, Plum, Lemon Yellow (A real lemon, sucks, can't make orange), Ultramarine Shadow and Carnage Red. I will post some more pics of a Termie Lord I've been working on, but I need to buy some orange paint first. Sorry for the lack of pics, I posted it for a friend so he could see it.
Leech: I will start the process of highlighting and shading, this was a model to see if I liked the scheme. The trim is supposed to be a sort of bloody orange color, a good contrast with the purple. Blazing orange would really make that trim pop, I'll buy myself a bottle of that today.
Andusciassus: Yeah, brown, I think that's the way to go. There's another bottle I've to buy!
MisterDutch: Thanks! Yeah, the paint is too thick, poor quality paints on my part. They end up just looking chalky when I water them down. More/better pics to come soon.
What do you guys think of Daemonettes with this Purple/BloodOrange look? Also, maybe I should post this in Conversions, but what about Daemonettes with wings for Furies?
Here's the Terminator Lord. I borrowed some of the new foundation paints from a friend of mine and here's what I think: great for large expanses, but be careful around details. As you can see, it looks like the details get mushed up a bit if you don't water down the paint a little bit. That being said all the yellow stuff you see is still foundation as are the chains and most of the stuff above his head. I am hoping the orange will really make him pop.
EDIT: Different angle on the same model.

The original question was about the colour scheme, and I don't see a problem with it except that orange and purple make me think more of Mardi Gras than Evil (though many conservatives would see those two as one and the same, but I digress). However the colours appear to be complimentary so if your happy, use them.
Appart from that you know about the other issues raised such as overpaint, highlighting and thinning the paints, so work on that and it should be fine.
Diabolus fecit, ut id facerem!
I'm really into the Emperor's Children but I don't really like their color scheme, so I chose a new one I could use for either my own legion or the Emperor's Children.
I'm not sure where to go from here with the Termilord...should I wash it in something or what? I think I need to rework the chains and the sword, and I'm starting to reconsider his kneepad, but do you guys see anything else that needs attention?
Also, I'm starting my Demonettes, should have a test model to show before long and then I'm on a 3 week hiatus (family vacation).
