Check out this marine...
The Bolter and Chainsword : Space Marine Display
Is this a good scheme? i have a hard time visuallizing it on a real model... but tell me what u think.
Good scheme. Looks like flesh tearers, or maybe a generic Chaos regiment. It will look very dark on the table -- What color are you planning to color the guns?
It looks good, however, I'd only make the small change of the eyes being green instead of blue. Green complements red far better than blue.
The bolter will probably have a black casing, a golden eagle just like the chest plate, boltgun clip and barrel, and the handle, pump shotgun lick thing, and the rest will be red. will that look good?
Also, i will probably use the Take the Fight to Them trait, enabling me to switch a bolter for a cc and bolt pistol. how should i paint a chainsword???
Remember, a model looks complete when you have 3 main colors. The answer, IMO, is simple - make the casing of the gun gold to match the chest, and the gun's eagle red. Just a small twist on the paint job, but should make it really snap, and look great from a distance.
Paint up a few both ways and decide. I will bet a jillion dollars that the overall effect on the tabe will look better with the contrasting guns.
Look at this example, and also look at the whole squad to see what I mean.
The most important lesson I ever learned painting is to LOOK AT IT FROM 4-5 FEET AWAY every once in awhile. I have a couple of squads that are very well painted that have no real contrast, and therefore look pretty boring on the tabletop.
Anyway, rant (um, I mean advice..) over.
