Use a uniform color scheme
Or have a rainbow of Orks.
I'm painting my first box of boys, and I'd like to ask a question: Should I go with a uniform colros wiht a uniform color scheme, or should I ut variety in my Orks. I myself am leaning toward vatiety, as uniforms seem unorky. But Just wanted a second opinion.
Don't give them a true uniform, as this would be very unorky. However, IMHO, I think that the best way to go about it would be to use a base of various metals and browns for the armour and clothing and then clan them up by painting some of the armour or even just painting some glyphs on in a clan scheme (maybe 2 colours). Just don't paint the coloured parts the same on each model. You've gotta keep the scrappy, savage aspect of the orks.
"Da mekz 'ave made you da best armour coz you're da best ork"
IMHO uniforms only work on BloodAxe orks - I painted mine in a sort of desert camouflage. Choose a paint scheme, and use a limited set of colours for your army to unite them. A rainbow might make the army look disjointed. Either way, if you pick a key colour - your warboss' favourite or lucky colour? that can be drawn through the army on armbands, armour, helmets, grafitti, flames on vehicles, whatever you like to tie them in.
Zapp: You see the killbots have a preset kill limit. Knowing their weakness, I sent wave after wave of my own men at them until they reached their limit and shut down.
Well I already got a sort opf prime color. The theme of my Orks is that they like shiny stuff (hence the clan name Steel Teef), so I've been using this silver color on their armor and weapons. Then I've used some blues, browns, reds, and of course greens to paint the rest.
Because My orks are Freebooterz I have a rather wide variety of colours in my army, mainly because I decided that each squad should come from a different clan. So I have some Deffskull Burna boyz and trukkers as well as some evil sun equivalents (2 burnas, 2 trukks total) A pile of Goff slugga boyz, bloodaxe komandos and tankbustaz, and just plain old weedy grots in whatever they can scrounge.
So yeah while my army does look a tad disjointed eacg squad follows a basic set of colours that identify their clan and all Boyz have a lucky Tat in the warbosses chosen colour (as soon as I decide what it is... I'm thinking A big ol' red hand plastered on foreheads, arms, armour, vehicles or wherever theres some space, showing that each boy in the mob is 'handpicked')
