k all i am thinking of starting brettonia and i have the problem of not knowing how to paint horses. I cant blend to save my soul so that option is out so anyone got anu pther ideas?
I think it depends on how you want your army to look.
Doesn't drybrush a slightly lighter tone do the trick for you?
Also, why blending? You say you can't blend, but why do you need it. It doesn't look the same in conjunction with the riders anyway...
but that's just my 2 cents.
well a while back i was looking also for some help on horses, found these guides:
GW Online : The Lord of The Rings : Rohan : Painting The Horses of Rohan
they're not that daugnting once you get used to them and youll definately develop more techniques the more u paint
i hate painting horses, i dont know why but i just dont like it!
Its not that hard, however, and most bret horses have large horse cloths covering most of their body that you can just paint in the same heraldic colours as the knight riding them.
A good tip is to look at pictures of real horses and use that as a basis, just by adding details like the socks of the horse and the colour splash they often have on thie noses can help give a more realistic finish- and when stuck ive found that a matt black horse looks ok too!
For a basis brown horse i use a scorched brown basecoat and then highlight with bestial brown, the musculature is quite well defined on citadel horses so you can just use the sculpt as a guide for where to highlight
