    Eyes..

    Hey Guys,

    I'm sure this has come up before but its hard to search for "eyes" when every second post has eyes in it.. so sorry in advance if you've covered this time and time again..

    Basically I was finishing off some Inquisitorial Storm Trooper Vets and was doing there eyes and wondered how others did theirs..

    I personally make manga looking eyes with basically white and black dots.. subtly though so they don't look stupid, but I noticed in codex's and white dwarves that alot of people dont even put eyes in or wont give them pupils..

    So my question is .. How do you paint eyes on your models?

    With my Kroot it's easy... stark white :)

    On my human GZG minis though, I would paint white and then a dot of any very dark color for the iris. However, I've been told by several people that the eyes would look better if they were offset by a black outline; many people paint black and then add two white dots to maintain the outline and frame the iris.

    most of the time i just paint the eyes white might be the greatest thing but it gives a sense of the eyes being there from a distance, but if its on a special model such as a commander i paint the eyes black then do the sides white slowly closing in from the far end of the eye to the center to make sure the pupil isent to big or small

    Well, you have already heard the 2 main techniques;

    1) Paint the eyes white and then paint the pupil black

    2) Paint the eyes black and then paint the edges white.

    Also, though I personally don't use them, some people use paint pens to do their eyes. I think Slorak does that, so I'll leave the specifics to him or others who do.

    Hope that helps.

    hi, whilst looking for skin tutorials i found these on eyes, worth a look:

    Reaper Miniatures :: TheCraft

    Destroyer Minis: don't worry, it's the painter you should worry about, not the minis. (really OTT past step 5)

    havent got round to trying them out yet, but anything is beneficial

    There are two different pens I can reccomend for this kind of work.

    Micron pens are reasonably good. Though you have to be careful and let them dry COMPLETELY as they are not waterproof. They go down as far as. 0.05 mm

    The second variety, I will have to look up(as they are new to my hobby use as well)
    These go to 0.03mm, are waterproof, "fade proof"(haven't really had it long enough to know for sure) and are re fillable, and can replace the tips, all for only double the cost of the disposable(which is like $3 US, 6 for these). I just acquired them recently and haven't really had a chance to use/test them out much. As soon as I go home I'll look up the name brand and write it down.

    Cool, thanks guys.

    Yeah another way I've heard is just keeping the eyes skins colour and putting a dark wash in the recesses so it breaks the colour.. which looks really good on a dark skinned model i just did but I think i may try out the pens in future...
    That or get a new detail brush.

    If anyone else has any tips, let us know
