a nice solid unit of terminators ought to give most units of eldar issues. Be sure to make good use of cover fi they are a shooty army.
I think you're always going to have a hard time against eldar at that point level. Most of his stuff is cheaper than yours. At 500pts you don't really have room to get into the guns and things that are really nasty against eldar(or atleast make it a bit more fair)
pookity terminators arent so good agenst them if they have pathfinder which are his favorite unit
At 500pts, a lot of armies play very differently than they would at 1500. Most armies are playtested and balanced at 1500pts or greater. So in smaller games, some army lists find they are much more constrained than others because of their options on the force org chart and the cost of their units.
Marines against Eldar in 500pts is rough, because you'll be toting mostly tactical marines while he has the ability to field more specialty units that can take advantage of you. Aside from the old fallback of "superior tactics" you'll just have to stick to a few basics:
Take heavy bolters to mow down eldar troops.
Take missile launchers for AT because that's usually as good as it gets for Armor Pen on their vehicles, and I don't think they have anything that's got a 2+ save.
Don't take too many upgrades, and keep your HQ cheap. Your basic units are going to kick pansy @$$ even if they aren't super-tooled.
If you're playing combat patrol rules, you won't be using Dreads or Preds anyway, but you won't be seeing Falcons or Waveserpents either (much relief!). If you're playing anything goes at 500pts, then a Dread is a viable option.
Walking your termies on foot across the entire table on a wide open bridge with no cover while taking fire from 2 units of 5 Pathfinders every turn is NOT good use of cover lol.
P.S. I have the Eldar army he is having trouble with. We have a 2250 point game going now and it isn't going much better for him hehe. I for the most part have a pretty shooty list - Eldrad, Avatar, 2 units of Dire Avengers, 1 Wave Serpent, Falcon, Wraithlord, Reapers, small unit of Harlies, unit of Striking Scorpions, and a unit of Warp Spiders. IMO He didn't take nearly enough long range weapons, particularly anti tank, and he never takes transports for his troops. He also did not deep strike his Terminators, he has been walking em.. You Space Marine guys need to help him out so my Eldar can at least get a workout!
The SMurf's strength is their generic power.
In 500 points avoid Terminators like the plague. Elite units are easy pickin's for eldar weapons. He can field Banshees or rangers cheaply and ruin your day...or use starcannons on serpents etc. In small games its all about model count!
Take as many tac squads as possible with ML or HVY bolters. Take an assault squad too. Go cheap on the HQ.
If you care to go beyond platitudes of "use cover" and "use tactics" do some research in the tacticas on this site.
I'd suggest using your units in concert and forcing him into battles of attrition. ATSKNF and your superior toughness are advantages against eldar.
