    2000 pt Armoured Company (1st attempt)

    Hey Guys,

    I used to play warhammer a couple of years ago, since then I've kind of fallen away from it - it was taking up too much time and money, but a friend of mine is getting back into it, so I'm very vaguely considering the possibility of starting up again.

    With all the new apocalypse stuff coming out (especially the box of 10 Leman Russes) I thought it might be easy to start up an armoured company, plus it was the only army that really appealed to me (I used to play Daemonhunters, I'm kind of over that now). I've been reading some lists and tacticas and whatnot on armoured company, so I thought I'd have a go at a list and see what I could come up with. So here it is;

    HQ:

    Command Tank:


    -Exterminator: Turret TL Autocannon, Hull HB, Sponson HB's - 235

    Elites:

    Tank Ace:

    -Exterminator: Turret TL Autocannon, Hull HB, Sponson HB's - 200

    Tank Ace:

    -Destroyer: Hull Laser Destroyer - 235

    Troops:

    -Leman Russ: Turret Battle Cannon, Hull Lascannon, Sponson HB's - 165

    -Leman Russ: Turret Battle Cannon, Hull Lascannon, Sponson HB's - 165

    -Leman Russ: Turret Battle Cannon, Hull Lascannon, Sponson HB's - 165

    -Leman Russ: Turret Battle Cannon, Hull Lascannon, Sponson HB's - 165

    Fast Attack:

    3x Sentinals: Lascannon - 165

    3x Sentinals: Lascannon - 165

    Heavy Support:

    Demolisher: Turret Demolisher Cannon, Hull HB, Sponson HB's- 155

    I know I still have a few points left, but I figured it was going to be changed around a bit anyway, so I just left it as is.

    Just a bit of reasoning behind my choices; Exterminators for Anti-infantry, Destroyer for long range anti-tank, demolishers for close-up anti-infantry (or anti-tank if need be), 4x Leman Russes as the mainstay of the army, and the sentinals for (reasonably) cheap, mobile anti-tank, plus to split the enemies priorities as to what to fire at. Maybe for a bit of screening as well.

    I also realise that I could take out the sentinals and put in 2 extra Leman Russes - something I'm sure some of you will suggest, but I thought they could come in quite useful. I'll see what you have to say anyway.

    Well, changed my mind again on the demolisher sponsons, I'm just going to have HB's on there, as someone pointed out to me that the plas cannons are above S6, so they wouldn't be able to fire on the move anyway. As I said, it's been a year or two since I've played, so I kinda need to brush up on the rules.

    Another question that comes to mind - as I have about 30 points left over, what extras are worth taking on tanks? Track guards, smoke, etc. Any suggestions?

    (And some comments on the list would be much appreciated, lol)

    I'd swap the Tank Hunter for a Vanquisher with a hull lascannon and no sponsons. 8+2d6 penetration has better odds than 10+1d6 (for me anyways). I see no smoke or extra armor which can be a very bad thing, many players consider them standard kit. Add a heavy stubber to the Exterminators, another 36" infantry killing weapon is your friend. As you said I'd drop the sentinels all together but if you must have 3 of them with autocannons and give the other three hunter killers for an extra punch. The Demolishers don't unnecessarily need the sponsons they really only get to fire once or twice until you get the cannon in range. Just remember with this list you are ultra vulnerable to infantry since you have none of your own but thats also the fun of it.

    Since I made a AC list and didn't get many replied here on Libarium (no offence) I searched around and found Boot Camp, a totally guard dedicated forum:

    these guys helped me a lot and quite refined my list until I had changed my laser destroyer to a vanquisher and lemans to exterminators, added demolishers and a multitude of other things.

    Thanks for the replies guys, I was beginning to think I wasn't going to get any feedback

    Yeah, I can kind of see your point about the Vanquisher instead of the Destroyer...it'd probably be easier to convert as well. Heavy Stubbers sounds good, and Smoke and extra armour could be worthwhile, I just need to work out if I'll have the points.

    Not too sure about dropping the sentinals though - why would you suggest that? I'd be a bit low on anti-armour if I got rid of the sentinals, or changed them to autocannons I think.

    And Shadow Nugz, thanks for the link, but it doesn't work, the URL is all '***'. Mabe PM it instead?

    Sentinels are just asking to go boom. I don't carry them in my AC, at all.

    Also, and call me an outlier, I put sponsons on everything. Why? Relatively cheap, and if you lose your main turret, it's not just a block with treads.

    Well, thats kinda the point. They're 6 mobile lascannons roaming around- a decent threat to the enemies armour- that can hide in terrain if need be, and if the enemy is making them go boom, they're not making my tanks go boom with those weapons. They're distractions of sorts that are too threatening to pass up destroying.

    Yep, that's why I have sponsons on all my tanks (the ones that can take them anyway).

    Hmmm, a sound strategy.

    I think its a pretty good list, and given your strategy, solid. Honestly, nearly every list I've ever seen has some credit to it, if played appropriately. Yours seems sound.
