Okay this is my first time creating the new blood angels list so I wanted to know if I am on the right track (our planned battle is me versus tzeench in a "kill everything in sight" battle. We are playing on a 80" x 36", we always play on the long end so his defiler wont get shot as much)
My list contains
HQ- Mephiston, Lord of Death - 225
Elites- Venerable Furiouso Dreadnought -120
Drop Pod - 50
Techmarine - servo-harness, 2 servitors, 1 Plasma cannon- 160
Drop pod -50
Troops - 4 tactical marines, 1 sergent -115
9 tactical marines, 1 marines- 190
Heavy Support- Land Raider - 250
I am bacically against the following:
2 thousand sons squads
1 land raider
comments are appreciated
- Devesator Squad, 4 marines 1 lascannon, 1 missle launcher , 1 sergent 190
- Predator w/ lascannon sponsor, hull mounted lascannons 150
I don't play Blood Angels so I can't give chapter specific advice, but may I know why you have the Techmarine in a drop pod? Personally I would play him in the Land Raider, so I'm pretty curious on your choice.
Okay, I'm a bit crazy with deep striking (and belive me, I am) but I plan to deep strike him with the dreadnought so the dreadnought can sneakly attack his land raider while the techies would repair him(and they add a nice kick too in cambat. While everyone else would charge up and would hopefull surroun him and.... victory. He would never expect it.
im not sure why you are playing blood angels honestly. You arent taking advantage of any of their special units, save mephiston, and your style doesnt seem to fit into blood angels at all. But nonetheless:
Id drop meph right off the bat. Hes alot of points, hes a special character, hes a big target. He'll be joining what unit? any way you spin it he's not gonna be doing that much in the fight.
Look into getting a chaplain with jump pack or a "highpriest" (BA commander) to lead some death company with jump packs or in a rhino (to fit your vehicle heavy theme).
The tech marine is kind of a waste. I know you like him, but he wont be as effective in combat as an honor guard, veteran assault squad or regular assault marines. And for 210pts you can buy a unit of them easy.
Your troops are sad looking. Find some special weapons or heavy weapons, or both! against chaos youll need high str low ap. Look for missle launchers(troops) or plasma/lascannons to take down terminators or vehicles. Your vet sergeants could get some nice powerfists or such also to combat high toughness tzentch models.
Furioso will absorb fire, and if drop podded alone he'll be destroyed by terminators. Maybe just walk him as a support for your tactical squads? let him take shots for your other units.
Predator could be a BAAL predator, to fit your BA theme. Also, lots of assault cannon shots with rending will help out your chances of dropping his chaos lads.
Devastators, need all one weapon type. All missles or all lascannons. That way they wont waste their time shooting.
Oh, i think land raider is a wast of points in this list. Use the 250 to buy more jump pack guys or more tactical squads. Even Marines need numbers! and the more body units you have, the more DC you get!
Its a pretty ugly list because u have naked marine models.
I played with zeentch and isolating your dread will do no good, and the tech marine will do nothing.
Try plating your army as a whole with lots of mutal support.
Zeentch marines could easily take a charge and come out on top against all your units (one at a time). So keep as a group and field lots of missles.
And domwhat the abouve guys said becayse i cant write very fast because i cut myself after getting back into 40k this morning
Okay i got an update on my list(made it earlier but I pressed preview post and it deleted it for some reason... oh well)
HQ -Chaplin w/ Plama Pistol , Jump Pack 135
Elites-5 Death Company w/jump packs 55
- Venerable Furioso Dreadnought 120
Troops -9 marines w/ missle launcher, sergent w/plasma pistol, power fist- 240
-9 marines, sergent w/ power weapon
-9 assault marines, sergent w/power weapon, plasma pistol, combat shield(can I do that?)-290
Heavy Support- Predator w/ lascannon, lascannon sponsors -165
-Devesator Squad w/ 3 missles -175
-Baal Predator w/ heavy flamer -125
a few changes I would make.
Chaplin looks good, I am hesitent to give him a plasma pistol, but I think he should do alright with it.
I would try to get my death company up to eight members; it really makes a difference because you need a few of them to be effective and they are always going to be a target.
For the dreadnought I would probably drop vernerable, and add a drop pod and maybe a heavy flamer. Otherwise I would drop the whole thing because it wont arrive fast enough as your jump troops will do most of the pain.
On to the troops.
Sargents should not have a power fist and a plasma pistol--One bad role can kill about 70 points of model (and the effective part of the unit).
I would drop one of the troops to pick up a veteran assault squad--try to get atleast 8 members, but vet assault squads are incredible. Spilt the squad and use it to capture objectives near your deployment zone (and fire a heavy weapon).
Then I would change the ten man assault squad to a five man. Use them to get objectives, and take the extra points to get the veterans. (possibly add a second squad and get rid of the your first troop choice)
Fast attack--I would get rid of the lascannon preditor and for the same cost take the much more durable and effective/moble attack bikes...three squads of one with melta guns cost less then your preditor, can target multiple units, penetrates on the same number (and that is from range, once your are close your average penetration role is 15), and can't be killed by just one shot.
finally, I would drop the devastators. You have 4 units that can shoot vehicles from range, and 2 units (troops split into combat squad) to take objectives on your table side.
I would keep the baal preditor, but change the heavy flamers for heavy bolters. They cost the same but average 4 hits a turn from a longer range instead of the undetirmined hits, they might not come because it gets destroyed early. (If you have the points I might get a second one of these just so that you have more armor on the board...limited armor typically means that you will have no armor after turn turn.
these days the name of the game with BA seems to be many squads with fast movement. So you are moving in the right direction.
Chaplain looks good, but DC seems a little light, 8 men does seem like a good number so take the free ones you get and build up til you hit 8. Get them all jump packs.
I dont have my codex handy but i think assault squads will be fine, no need to worry about vet assaults. And because th scenerio will just be a slugfest battle to the death, you will want fat squads. 8+. So they can lay down a big enough charge to really break those fearless units in half. On your Veteran sergeants, get powerfists, not power weapons. Toughness 5 is rough, but str 8 fist ignoring saves is better. Also, get 2 plasma pistols in each squad. great for dropping CSMs. Try to get 2 of these units to run shotgun to your DC/chappie. Nice spear head.
Back them up with a Baal Predator and some fire support from the devs, 3 missles is good.
Your Tactical squad is fine, you dont need plasma on the sergeant but you do need a powerfist! get a full unit of 10, with a missle launcher, and split them using "combat squads" at the beginning of the game. Then youll have two five men units, one with a missle and one with a powerfist (and maybe a plasma/melta gun if you have points).
You seem to like vehicles and dreds but for BA thats not what is good. You need bodies. I like furioso too but in this list against this opponent he wont do too much before being destroyed. If you have to models, try to set up a list like this:
2 Assault sqauds (as described)
2 Tactical squads(as described)
Devastor sqaud (as you have it)
Baal Predator for support.
Thats 5 free DC. Pay for about 3-4 more and get jump packs for all of them. You now have 3 jump units with alot of powerfist/plasma/rending death. And support units for firing over their heads until you crash into a flank. The only thing i would suggest is getting 2 rhinos for those tactical squads. Still split the units in the beginning of th battle, but let the 5 man teams with meltas and powerfists jump in the rhinos to ride up field with the Baal pred and act as a second wave behind the jump guys.
Just my two cents, trying to get you on the high path of BA. Good luck.
okay here is a second update, this was a bit difficult to do
HQ - Chaplin w/ plasma pistol, Jump pack -135
Elites- 6 death company w/jump packs 90
-Venerable Furioso Dreadnought 120
*Drop Pod -50
Troops- 9 marines w/ missle launcher, meltagun, segent w/ powerfist -235
- 9 marines w/ missle launcher, meltagun, segent w/ powerfist -235
-9 assault marines w/ plasma pistol , meltagun, sergent w/ powerfist 300
Heavy Support -Dvesator Squad w/3 missle launcher, sergent -175
- Baal Predator w/heavy bolters , hunter killer missle 150
okay now should I leave the hunter killer missle or should I get rid of it and add a second plamsma pistol on the assault squad.
drop the HK and get the pistol. If things go well for you that p.pistol could get several kills, and the hunter killer missle is only good for one shot. You do the math.
Now i like your list alot more, only issue i have no is that you have two slow tactical squads and two fast jump units. However this isnt a huge problem. The tacts can move up with the dread and the jump guys can move up with the Baal Pred. Its all starting to shape up.
