My wiggle room is mostly in Elites, Chimeras, Tactics, Wargear, and heavy weapon assignments. This is a massive game and I haven't played against orks since they rewrote the dex. I figure a lot of advice will change due to the sheer size of the game.
I don't really want to use doctrines because I want to take a wide variety of things and not have to worry about cheesing out the list. I will not take drop troops.
Here's what I have.
Commissar Yarrick (included with FOA below)
Colonel Commissar Ibram Gaunt
Grenade Launchers x3
Anti Tank Squad x 2 (6 Lascannons)
Mortar Squad x 2
Fire Support x 2 (3 HB, 3 AC)
Vets (not sure how to best arm them, but I'm thinking shotguns, grenade launchers, and assigning them a Chimera)
Plasma pistol, power weapon
Vindicare assassin perhaps?
Alpha Platoon (wargear advice?)
5 full squads with missile launchers
Bravo Platoon (wargear advice?)
5 full squads with missile launchers
Charley Platoon (wargear advice?)
5 full squads with heavy bolters
Tank Company HQ
Tank Squad 1
Tank Squad 2
Tank Squad 3
1 Fortress of Arrogance
1 Macharius Vanquisher
1 Thunderbolt with 4 bombs
i feel bad for the orks ill start with...
Just a quick question, have any idea what the orks are bringing? some stompahs? some squiggoths? or just enough boyz to make guard cry mommy?
Some things, first dump plasma really, its orks there save is bad enough with guard putting holes in them id just give him a bolt pistol, plus saves u the chance
of over heat just my experience against orks
the anti tank squad is good if he roles armor which he will at least roll some transports and battle wagons, but if hes not rolling anything bigger then a battle wagon, ditch the las and go for heavy bolters.... lots...
if this game is really big i would put in 2nd basilisk if u dont have 1 thats cool just my suggestion
and lord... so many tanks... poor orks will never see it coming, whole horizon will be filled with lead
bomber is great choice pull a few straffs across his ranks with some napalm or big bombs
taking yarrick is also great cause well lets face it, best hero in WH 40k
nice choice with guant, but is he going with his tanith boys?
and the shot guns you might give out, would be good if you were assault out of forest or from drop troops but unless they arnt going to be used as food for orks id give them las guns and grenade launchers(24 inch assault frag fury)
vindicare would be good cause if u pop a nob, that squad just lost a power claw.... pop a big mek, no more fixing tanks, pop a warboss... scared orks
taking the missles in your troop squads is good sinc ethey can be both anti tank and anti infantry, uhh war gear for the sgt... bolt pistol, maybe auspex if hes running some kommandos, power weapon always and if possible, and wargear for the troops, las rifles and grenade launchers

I don't have another bassie, but I sure do have a lot of stormies with grenade launchers. I'll sub them in for the plasma dudes.
I've been thinking about scrubbing Gaunt and just using those points for more grenade launchers. I think I can squeeze out a couple more into my regular squads.
I know the Orks are bringing a stompa for sure and possibly a skullhammer.
in all respect i like orks but... with what i see i dont see how orks could ever win with a list of stuff your running 8X
but "never under estimate the enmy" is the name of the game so ya id take guant if he had his tanith boys with him but dont quote my on it, not an expert with ig heros
and ya grenade launchers are beautiful tools vs orks, but ya plasma u can never go wrong just since its a rapid fire weapon and if you try to move 24'' into range youll be cutt down to 12''
so just keeping the most range between u and the wave of hungry mouths is just ur best bet
