Need Help With 2,000 Point IG

Please see my previous thread "Lost Sons Of Mordia" for more information, but here is my quandary.

I am trying to build a 2,000 point army, and even armed with my codex, I am running to all kinds of logistical and strategical pitfalls. While I am not even sure this is the right place for this post, I issue this challenge to you.

What would be the best set up for an all-infantry army (the Basilisks will probably go back up on the shelves) that is balanced with no glaring weakness? Basically, I am asking the hardened LO veterans for sample army lists for a 2k Point all-infantry IG army, with two infantry platoons.

I will be waiting patiently to see what you come up with.

    Hello Commander Currans

I'm not sure if I qualify as an LO veteran, but I've never considered making an all-infantry army so I'll give it a shot. Making army lists is fun. Now, I could not find your post "Lost Sons of Mordia", but obviously your building a Mordian Iron Guard list. With that in mind you need to stick with the official fluff. So, 1. You need to use alot of their preferred weapons (ie. Lascannons and Grenade Launchers), and 2. You need to incorporate the doctrines. The Mordians have 6 doctrines. With 5th edition coming out outnumbering modifiers are no longer applied so Die Hards is useless, which means you need to take the Sanctioned Psykers, Heavy Weapons Platoons, Sharpshooters, Close Order Drill, and Ratling Squads doctrines. So, here is what I came up with. I'll follow the list with a brief explanation as to why I chose what I did.

    HQ
    Command Platoon (1 Command Squad)
    Command Squad
1 Heroic Senior Officer: Laspistol, Close Combat Weapon
    1 Sanctioned Psyker

    ELITES
    Ratling Squad (10 Ratlings)

    TROOPS
Infantry Platoon (1 Command Squad, 4 Infantry Squads, 1 Remnants Squad)
    Command Squad
1 Senior Officer: Bolt Pistol, Power Weapon
    1 Sanctioned Psyker
    2 Guardsmen: Flamers
2 Veterans: Shotguns, Close Combat Weapons
    Infantry Squad A
    Sharpshooters
    1 Sergeant: Lasgun
    6 Guardsmen: Lasguns
    1 Guardsman: Grenade Launcher
2 Guardsmen: Heavy Bolter Weapon Team
    Infantry Squad B
    Sharpshooters
    1 Sergeant: Lasgun
    6 Guardsmen: Lasguns
    1 Guardsman: Grenade Launcher
2 Guardsmen: Heavy Bolter Weapon Team
    Infantry Squad C

    TOTAL: 1993

The Command HQ has been rigged out to provide leadership only. The ratlings have been included for fluff reasons and they're good at taking out Monstrous Creatures. The two command squads for the Infantry Platoons have been designed for Close Combat. They, as well as the two remnants squads, will act as the counter-charge units. One infantry platoon has been given a smatterring of Heavy Bolters and Grenade Launchers shooting Frag for anti-infantry fire. The other infantry platoon is your MeQ killer with Grenade Launchers shooting Krak and Autocannons. Similarly, all three of the Heavy Weapon Platoon Command Squads are also equipped with Grenade Launchers and Autocannons for the same purpose. And the last Heavy Weapon Platoon is your mortar battery. Practically the whole army has been given Sharpshooters. And there you have it. Wow! I have too much time on my hands
