Hey guys; my local hobby shop is having a combat patrol... league. I use that word loosely. In essence, its just a bunch of combat patrol games. This is the list I just kind of threw together at work- please feel free to critique it. I am fairly new to the imperial guard, so there is a slight possibility something in my list is legal or something, although I doubt this. And I do realize that combat patrol is not in 5th edition, but we are going to play the mission with the same rules and regulations, just with the 5th edition rules.
Anyways, here it is.
Heavy Bolter, Plasma
3X Las Pistols and CCWs
Hardened Veterans x5
2x Plasma Guns
So... what do you guys think? Should I substitute the lascannon for another autocannon? Change up the wargear on the Junior Officer? Please, any comments are appreciated.
if it is a combat patrol, the highest armor value you will face is 12...................
yes a autocannon is better at taking out armor value 12 than a lascannon is.
there is a problem with your officer squad, it has no distinct objective, its kinda useless as you have it, it seems like you went for a counterassault unit, but it lacks any powerweapon/fist on the officer. and the medic is rather random for a assault unit. if you want it to be a plasma spam squad, add 3 plasma guns, so the medic will actually be useful, so either make it a plasma spam squad, or a counterassault squad.
if going for counter assault, give your officer a power weapon/fist and perhaps give him a refractor field(needed if you get a fist) and probably a bolt pistol cannot hurt, you can keep the plasma if you like it tho
just give the squad assault weapons, or ccw and laspistol
one thing i notice, is(this is entirely up to u) you seem to spam plasma, yes it may be a great special weapon, but you dont have many men in a combat patrol, so isn't it a bit odd to kill your own men?
also plasma is not that great against non meq, yes it insures a kill, but flamers, and grenade launchers are good at killing your enemies too.
you might want to drop something for a vehicle, or two, vehicles are usually pretty good in a combat patrol(especially chimera's)
Hellhounds are good tanks
Satan - "**** you Kage! And **** you Jables! I'll get you Tenacious DDDDdddddddeeeeee!!!!!!"
Hahaha cool man thanks. Yeah I do like plasma, but you do have a point.
The thing with taking vehicles is this; most people will expect to face some sort of vehicle, and will put a few anti tank weapons in their army, whether it be a melta or something or some autocannons or whatever. So taking one vehicle gives them a target; taking none means their autocannon/melta/whatever is shooting guardsmen. Obviously, guardsmen are a lot less expensive than the minimum 80 point chimera.
But yeah, lol I didn't really know what I was doing with the command squad. I'll take your advice whether it be the counter assault or the plsma spam squad or something. Maybe I'll take three flamers... with a combat oriented junior officer. That might work lol.
But yeah man, thanks for the advice ^^
