Hi guys this is my 500 pt army that will be taking on a tau list with lots of battle suits and fire warriors.
Master-thunder hammer, iron halo, jump pack= 150pts
Tactical squad(5-man)-heavy bolter, term honours, power fist= 105pts
Tactical squad(5-man)-missile launcher= 85pts
Assault squad(5-man)- term honours, power weapon, plasma pistol, no mercy no respite(furious charge)= 145pts
raven guard succesors criticism welcome.
Usually Masters get power weapons since they have such a high initiative (and it gets wasted when you have to strike last). I'd recommend giving your master a power weapon instead of the thunder hammer, and then giving your assault squad sergeant a power fist. Also, since Tau are so bad in CC you won't really be using the special rules of the hammer - all of the Tau will probably be dead or running away anyway.
I'm also a bit confused about the heavy bolter squad. The power fist in there is pretty expensive and you're only going to be able to use the HB of PF in a given turn. If it were me, I'd drop the veteran and the PF since the HB is going to be very effective against the Tau.
It looks like a pretty solid list to me, let us know how your game goes.
cheers for the feedback, The master has a thunderhammer because i want to smash his suits with a single wound but know i think about it 5 attacks is probably gonna do it any way with the power weapon so thanks for bringing that up. The heavy bolter in the power fist is mainly for taking objectives in the last couple of turns or contesting it wich smashing fire warriors with the power fist comes in handy and scaring his devilfish away from the objectives also is great so it will play a test game and see what happens. I will post probably post the feedback on the after the game tommorow.
For attaching to assault marines I use a jump chaplain, 4+ invul and power weapon for 100 pts, and a jump pack makes a 120 pt model. His ws may be downed soon, but with the whole squad re rolling on the charge he is priceless. Buty keep in mind you are saving points ^^
ok i played the game but he wanted a 750 pt game so i added a land speeder typhoon and a extra 5 men in each squad making the squads with both power fist and heavy weapon.
ok The result was too close for comfort, The mission was capture the enemy building i held my building with the tactical squad with heavy bolter and contested his building with my landspeeder. My master and his assault squad did alright wiping out 2 squads of fire warriors leaving hi m with nothing to capture with. at the end i only had 2 marines holding my objective and my lanspeeder contesting his. If there was another turn my chances of winning were very slim.
Fighting Tau in CC is pretty fun. But I would suggest the tornado over the typhoon, especially if you are zipping around on the other end of the board. Against non marine armies especially, you have 7 armor piercing shots, usually wounding on 2's and up.
for the points you spent on giving the assault squad furious charge and a plasma pistol you could have given your tactical squads plasma guns they would have helped out by being able to kill just about anything the tau could bring at this point level.
