Lately ive been playing with a cannoness with celestian bodyguard in a retinue, with both the cannoness and veteran superior having evisceratrs, on the charge thats 7 eviscerator attacks hitting on 3's. I also give them litanies of faith for sticky situations (needing to invuln when 10 men). This squads track record is excellent. So far the best they have beaten up is an 8 man assualt terminator squad that charged them out of a land raider crusader, and they Won!!
Normal marine squads they go through like butter with a heavy flamer and meltagun to fire before they charge.
Its an expensive unit (about 320 including a rhino) but worth every bit!
Anyone else experienced how hard these are?
They are only Tough and strength 3. I too use a cannones with s retinue but have figured out along time ago that are army is st 4 whenthe shoot and strenght 3 when we brawl so I only throw my cannones and her retinue into the fray as a last resort or to tip the balance of an exsisting fight. Also if you play in a regular gaming group they will see this coming and use non-elite squads good in close combat to swamp your elite unit (gaunts, tact squads, kroot, etc...). just a thought not menaing to sound edgy.
i agree with the above response, it is a very good unit but for 300-350 points there are many better things to buy from our codex and TBH, wh are more of a shooty army,
for those points you could get a squad of 15 repentia, 10 arco flaggelants or even 4 penitent engines (maybe 5 but i dont have my codex here so i cant check points) all of these things are better AND more versitile in combat,
Yeah, as previously pointed out, they are a good squad but quite expensive. On the other hand, if you dont care about points you can add a priest and an elite inquisitor with eviscerators...then add in the land raider for the assault right out of the transport!
Then cry as your 600-point unit gets lascannon'd on turn 1.
