After the 5th edition my necrons got a bit borring (troops), and the new SM rules this fall/winter have put my finest defender of humanity on the shelfs. Chances are that my 3rd edition GK wont be getting a new codex before 6th edition rules, but with the new erreta im hooked again.
When a played an ork army (1500pts) the other day, my 4 5 man squads got owerwhelmed, and my two LR rolled enough 1's to almostr match my whining about it. As alwaysmy callidus proved usefull, and made my opponent whine as much as I.
That battle aside, I sad down working on a new DH army, with no fluff in mind - only demand was that my two LR stayed in.
Currently my brothers IG army is (long-term) parked in my home, and battle tanks are quite sweet.
2LR and a BT provides me with a) AT, b) Long Range, c) Transportation, d) Mobile cover and e) Durability.
However, its a large load of points, and I must include 2 IG Troop Choices in addition to my own troops.
As for now my army looks like this, with a bit more than 30 points left to spend.
1 Infantry Platoon (1 command, 2 squads)
1 Armoured Fist Squad
5 IST w/ 2 Plasma guns
8 GK incl. Justicar
1 Brother-Captain w/ 3 Terms
With this army i have 3 transports, able to bring my GK and GKT into melee. IST can ride (but not from the get-go) the Chimera, and the IG will claim the ground (if they can hold it).
The first 2-3 turns I will keep my distance, LR going AT and the BT hunting MEQ or large formations.
GK and GKT will bring SB fire upon incomming units, while the IG will make best use of cover and go-to-ground if about to loose more than 2 models.
Against a shooty army I will DS my GKT and Rush my Armour forward. The LR not transporting the GK will hold the IG command squad, so that it may score objectives.
The LR will flank the BT and its weaker side armour.
Lacking my callidus to take out Devistator/Loota squads will be hard, but my expensive Infantry will be protected by LR, and I'll just have to whine if there are many Lascannons/Railguns on the opposing side.
NB: My freinds and I play all armies except DE, so its always hard to make an army that will perform its best each time, and out of sportsman ship we rarely modifies a winning army.
THE LAST FEW POINTS
The options I see are:
Cut a plasma from the IST to gain an extra Term.
Upgarde IG squads with veteran serg. for Ld 8 (much needed)
Put some upgardes on my squad (GL for IG, Hv. Stubber for Chimera, Incenerator for GK/GKT, and EQ for Br-Cap).
Swap IG PLatoon for 2nd Armoured Fist Squad
Bringing back my Callidus and the Elite Inq. will support GK in melee (using hammer and stormshield)
An extra GK unit (mayby both will be smaller)
A few upgrades.
Find points for GM
Hope you can give me some feed-back and a few pointers.
* Gloriously punted to the army list section *
Spambot kill tally. . .337
IG w/ DH look good on paper and are very fluffy, but they are also a difficult combination to muster. I know because I bought a whole bunch of IG for my DH army, and I wasn't necessarily doing any better with the new list.
Having said that, I do still use IG with my DH because I like the fluff that they bring (and the numbers are nice as well).
Since your army is mostly mechanized and you have plenty of anti-tank, I would swap the platoon for another Armored fist squad. If you take any tanks/armor, it's best to bring a lot so that there are more targets for your opponent's high Str. weaponry to worry about.
With the few points that you get from that upgrade, I would try to invest in 1 of 2 things:
1) Keep the Terminators as is but give the BC a psycannon and add 1 to a regular GKT.
2) Find some more points and upgrade the BC to a GM.
Also, remember that since Transports aren't dedicated anymore, your Grey Knights can hitch a ride in them if needed.
Fantasy: Daemons (Angels), 40k: Black Templars
Sooo many acronyms!
Anyway if you are going to take guard in your army you might as well put in a russ, bassilisk or even a demolisher to support your terminators.
Also if you want lots of cheap capturing units of guardsmen use conscripts instead they are only 200 pts for 50!
By the way could i get any advice on my daemon hunters army below:
- master crafted force weapon
- 2x plasma guns
- assault cannon
- extra armour
any advice you might have would be much apreiciated
Wow, that was a thread jack if I've ever seen one! lol If you would like advice on your list, please create your own thread and we will be happy to comment on it.
He did use a Russ (his acronym is BT).
You can't take conscripts in a DH parent army.
