Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hey folks, new here, making a return to 40k after not having played it for 8 years or so. Used to play a nid army which is sadly gone. But i thought id mark my return with a nice IG army. Gonna start collecting in bits but i wanted a 2000 point model to work towards. This is what ive come up with so far and would greatly appreciate any input on it. Ive researched every unit on the forums and this is what ive come up with which i think will suit my playstyle and hopefully be fairly effective. All critism welcome.
This Army currently comes in at 2024 Points so i need to trim 24 points off the total (I originally trimmed this down from 2600 after going a little overboard lol) Any suggestions on where to trim these points from would be more than welcome. Main places i could see were the following
Side Sponsons on LMBT
Power Weapons in Main- Command
Cutting Vet or ST Squads down by 1man Each
Everything here has a specific use or job and is hopefully geared to suit that role.
My Doctrines Are
Veterans (I luv having another of these units for Some heavy Plasma / Autocannon fire which WILL HIT)
Grenadiers (Troopers are gods imo. Knowing the trouble they caused me when i played as nids i was eager to include a couple of these guys)
Sharpshooters (For no other units that my 2 Heavy Weapons Support Squads, i need those Bolters and Lascanons to hit)
Iron Disipline (Primary role of my HQ is Leadership, with my mobile troops Vox’d up and my Stationary troops closely supported by my HQ every1 should get good use from this.
Drop Troops Nothing pleases me more than knowing i can drop my Command Squads and Sentinels in close to weak enemy spots or armour if the need arises and something panics me.
HQ- 355 Points
Command Squad- 156 Points
J/O -Honorifica Imperialis-P/W
Commissar – P/W
Supply Leadership within 12” for all Infantry Squads
Supply Leadership over Vox for Veterans and Storm Troopers
Close Combat weapons for half a chance vs Deep Striking Assault + No Heavy / Special so not a high priority target.
Fire Support Squad – 90 Points
Heavy Bolters x3
Anti-tank Support Squad – 120
ELITES- 272 Points (136 Per Unit)
Hardened Veterans x2
Vet Sgt- Boltgun
Infiltrate Ahead of main force to Secure Cover / Objectives – Plasma saved for the higher Accuracy troops. Autocannons taken as i felt they would target similar targets to plasma’s. Despite the temptation to attack a Lascanon i didn’t want to waste the valuable plasma shots firing the las at a vehicle.
TROOPS- 946 Points (2 Infantry Platoons – 2 Storm Troopers With Chimera’s)
Infantry Platoon 1 -231 Points
J/O- Bolt Pistol
Cheap Expendable Command squad capable of deep-striking if an opportunity arrives or staying back with force acting as a speed bump for CC units that get to close. Capable of doing lotsa damage but not appearing as a high value target due to lack of expensive special/heavy weapons.
Infantry Squad 1+2
Cheap no thrills unit – Grenade / missile launchers for a little versatility and for blast to make up for BS3. Plasma’s saved for Vets + Storm Troopers.
Infantry Platoon 2 -247 Points
J/O- Bolt Pistol
Expendable Command squad capable of deep-striking if needed to take out heavy Armour or staying back with force acting as a last minute defence vs heavily armoured Infantry or vehicles.
Infantry Squad 1+2
Storm Troopers (Grenadiers) – 234 Points x2
Vet Sgt- P/W + Melta Bombs
Heavy Bolter Turret
Heavy Bolter Hull
My Mobile Infantry capable of taking the fight to the enemy, supporting gaps in my lines with the support of heavy bolters from my chimeras. Vet Sgt equipped with PW and Melta Bombs for when they inevitably get caught in CC or caught by a light vehicle or even a tank. If Vet Sgt fails to take vehicle out with Melta’s troopers can have a go with their built in grenades.
FAST ATTACK- 100 Points (2 Sentinel Squads 1 sent in Each)
Sentinel Squadrons x2
1 Sentinel Autocannon
Cheap expendable units. Capable of Outflanking. Holding up weaker infantry and generally being a best. With enemy heavy fire focused on my Heavy Tanks and Chimera’s these units should hopefully get a little bit of a free reign. With deep-strike capability to i can magnetise their weaponry and look to give them flamers. Could accompany my Flamer equipped command Squad.
Heavy Support- 340 (LRBT 155 + DEMOLISHER 185)
Lemanruss Battle Tank – 155
Hull Mounted Heavy Bolter
Side Sponsons Heavy Bolters
What more can be said. Versatile tank capable of support any of my units from Infantry platoons to Mobile storm troopers. May removes the side sponsons as not sure if they will get used but having the use of them if either turret is destroyed or I’m staying stationary seems to good to miss for 10points. Would love to apply smokes or armour but lack of points prevent this, more important my chimera’s use them.
Leman Russ Demolisher – 185
Hull Mounted Lascannon
Side Sponsons Plasma Cannons
With the short range of the Turret i put Lascannon and Plasma’s on for that long range support if its needed or i need the last minute use to get rid of a vehicle out of 24inch range. I plan on using this tank more aggressively than the Battle Tank, at times using it to cover / push a Unit of Storm troopers and their chimera to cover whilst under heavy fire or even using it to charge at the enemy front with its heavy armour they would have no choice but to focus fire on it allowing my other units to get into good position or use the opportunity to lay down some serious damage. Again i wish i could afford smoke / armour on the thing but i simply cant.
My weaknesses as far as i can see are a lack of Heavy vehicle defence. If an enemy army fields several high armoured tanks, bar 1 suicide deep strike from my melta armed command squad and my lascanon support squad I’m in the shiz. My vets auto cannons and regular troops missile launchers help vs the slightly lighter armoured vehicles’ but no match for anything much bigger. With no points spare though i struggle to find a major gateway for upgrades without knocking down a main strength of numbers. Also i plan to use Tanith models for my veterans. Can i use the Colonel from Gaunts men as a normal Lasgun wielding veteran? And how do you guys think the Catachan Luitenant with the boltgun would fit in as vet sgt’s in my Hardened vet squads.
One last point to this now lengthy post, is there a link to the Harikoni warhawk IG Models. I wouldn’t mind implementing them into my army as either Storm Troopers or Maybe Vets.
Thanks in advance for any time spent on pointers and critism. Apreciate it.
EDIT: Took out 1 or 2 mentions of specific points. Think im in complience with the forums rules now. Apologies in advance is ive mentions anything im not supposed to. Done my best to follow guidlines. Thnks Meps

drop the vox network, 1st of all, in 5th edition bad leadership is actually helpful(squad gets assaulted, cut up, fails leadership test, falls back, enemy unit left in the open with nowhere to hide, squad that failed leadership test and ran away, regroups at junior officer to turn and fight again, with minimal casualties(iron disipline is required) of coure the enemy could catch you and kill you, but you will lose assaults anyway, this way at least you have a chance
or you can take a buncha veteran sergents combined with close order drill, giving u ld 9 and being cheaper than vox network, even if you gave them boltguns too.
the commisar's leadership does not go through the vox network, i hope you dont expect it to. personally my command squad runs around with a flag, and a melta gun, killing deepstriking dreads or close by tanks, while providing leadership, and not hiding at the back of the line.(fluffwise my officer is one of those guys who are like a friend to the other soldiers under his command, they have strict disipline, but otherwise do what they want, because there are no commisars in the army.)
swap the smoke and extra armor on ur chimera to the demolisher, the chimera is not as much of a target
Hellhounds are good tanks
Satan - "**** you Kage! And **** you Jables! I'll get you Tenacious DDDDdddddddeeeeee!!!!!!"
The only reason i wanted a leadership network was to make sure my stormies pass with flying colours and same with my vets. These are my units that are going to be away from command squads and holding vital peices of terrain / objectives by moving fast / infiltrating in. I think its vital they hold and dont run vs shooting and assault in this situation. Have ldr9 from the vox will hopefully make this a worthwhile investment.
Truth be told i persumed commissars leadership went thorugh the vox but even without i think the points investment. Means i can drop the commisar and free up the points im over and equip my other tanks with smoke.
I dont intend for these units to get into assault anyway. Backed up with their chimera's if they need to move quickly and sentinels to tie up troops closing in i plan to keep them out of assault long enough for my infantry to move up and support them.
My infantry platoons will not be vox eqquipped these ladies can run all they like. and will be a gr8 advantage for them to. Fluffwise i think its important my mobile and infiltrating units have methods of communicating with command.
Im very interested in your forward moving command squad tho. Do you not find it becomes a priority target and gets ripped to peices? How many melta's medics etc do you equip it with for it to be succesful at taking out deep-striking termies etc. officer + Medic + Standard + 2 Melta's?
