    500pts Tourney, 3 Lists

    Just read the last post on the 500pts Guard, and I agree that Grenadiers are the only kind of real flexibility that Guard have at 500pts.

    With that being said, here are two lists. Opponents are likely going to be DE, Scout-heavy SM, Foot-slogging Chaos, Nids, a Fire-warrior Tau and a Mechy-Suity Tau.

    List #1 - More Conventional
    Doctrines - Iron Discipline, Close Order Drill

    HQ
    JO with ID, Bolt Pistol, CCW
    4x Guardsmen with 2 Flamers

    Troop #1 - Armored Fist Squad
    10 Guardsmen with a Melta
    Chimera with Multilaser, Hull Heavy Bolter

    Troop #2 - Platoon
    JO with ID, Laspistol, CCW
    4x Guardsmen with 2 Flamers
    10 Guardsmen with Plasma, Lascannon
    10 Guardsmen with Plasma, Lascannon
    (Remnants) 4 Guardsmen, Plasma
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    List #2 - And now for something COMPLETELY different!
    Doctrines - Grenadiers, Close Order Drill, Iron Discipline, Veterans

    HQ
    JO with ID, Bolt Pistol, Melta Bombs
    4x Guardsmen

    Elites
    5x Hardened Veterans with Plasma, Autocannon
    5x Hardened Veterans with Plasma, Autocannon
    5x Hardened Veterans with Plasma, Autocannon

    Troops
    10x Grenadiers with 2x Plasma
    10x Grenadiers with 2x Grenade Launchers

    List #3 - Odd, but maybe...?

    4x guardsmen with 2 Meltaguns
    AT Squad - 3x Lascannons

    8x Grenadiers with 2 Grenade Launchers
    9x Grenadiers with 2 Plasma Guns

    Fast Attack

    I like List #2 the best, but what do you guys/girls think?

    Id say list two but COD can be removed no-one can use it in that list, not sure about the melta bombs in that command either, they dont seem right when that is really their only weapon, perhaps drop them for a stormbolter?

    Definately list 2 list one has las plas evilness so woudl need sorting anyway, list three looks fun but the lascannon squad is overkill, swap that for a sentinel with autocannon get another sentinel with multilas for fast attack and then beef out the grens. woudl make a nice list.

    Hmm thanks for the help, 'Lestat. I think you're right by saying List 2 is the strongest. I edited it thinking about what you said with the Melta bombs, and this is what I came up with:

    Doctrines - Grenadiers, Iron Discipline, Veterans

    HQ
    JO with ID, Bolt Pistol, CCW
    4x Guardsmen

    Elites
    5x Hardened Veterans with Plasma, Autocannon. Veteran Sergeant has a Bolter.
    5x Hardened Veterans with Plasma, Autocannon. Veteran Sergeant has a Bolter
    5x Hardened Veterans with 3x Plasma. Veteran Sergeant has a Bolter.

    Troops
    10x Grenadiers with 2x Plasma
    10x Grenadiers with 2x Grenade Launchers

    I rearranged the points a bit, managed to find 2 more plasma guns and 3 bolters at the expense of melta bombs and an autocannon. I think it has a bit more bite to it now, by infiltrating the 3x Plasma Vets squad and setting up the other two Vet squads in support of the Grenadiers, with the JO standing around to regroup squads that run away. I could add drop troops to get the Vets in, but I'm not a huge fan of it.

    Looks like a good list and plan. I would take drop troops as a doctrine anyway, you have the slot and don't have to use it if you dont want but if you decide to for soem reason it will be there. I frequently used it when I ran sentinels simply for the just in case option!
