Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hi all, I lurk around here quite a lot. I have a very fledgling guard force and thought I might have a bash a making a mechanised force. Just so you all know I've not played a game of 40k since 3rd Ed so I have no idea wether or not this is feasable. Not bought to much so things can change (things in bold are things that I own already)
Command squad - 235pts
HSO with Power Weapon and Iron Discipline
Vox operater, melta gun
Commissar with power weapon and plasma pistol
Platoon Command 227pts
JO with Powerfist, 2 Flamers, Vox, Commissar with Powerfist
2 Squads with Grenade/Missile Launchers and Vox 174pts
2 Standard Chimeras 170pts
2 5 man Grenadiers squads - 1 2xmelta, 1 2xplasma
2 Standard Chimeras 310pts
2 x Lascannon Sentinals 110pts
Leman Russ with Lascannon 155pts
Comes in 4 points short of 1500 if my calculators maths is correct. any thoughts are welcome, and thanks in advance .
Seems like a pretty good list over all.
1. what is your standard chimera? do you mean simply the multilas heavy bolter setup?
if oyu do then extra armour and smoke laucnhers need to be bought. These are almost essential as pieces of kit for transports to keep them alove!
Also the heavy flmaer on the front is becoming a common setup due to the new moving and firing rules (personally I still like to use a mix)
2. make sure that the sentinels are split into two different units when you play, if you dont they are likely to be destroyed pretty quick.
3. I can't help feeling the russ is a little out of place, it has need of sponsons and TBH the hull weapon should still be a heavy bolter. If you swapped the lascannon out for a triple HB setup then I think it wouldnt be too bad actually.
4. I'm also not sure abou tthe JO and the Commisar with fists though I can see the plan. Perhaps the chimera here could be doing with a hull heavy flamer?
Anyway nice strong list over all
hope that helps
Thanks for the reply commissar .
And yeah my "standard chimera" is multilas/HB. I was thinking after reading some other stuff on here that I might go for some heavy flamer death for the hull weapons on the chimeras, or at least some that arn't destined to be armoured pill boxs.
After a bit more thought I wondered if I should drop the chimera from the melta grenadiers and have them as standard stormies with deep striking? And then use the exta 85ish points to add a couple more grenadiers to the plasma unit, and have them as the objective grabbers. and also the Ex armour, and maybe some smoke to the mobile chimeras, but I was kinda thinking that I'm gonna need the heavy weapon shots...
I am right in thinking that guard officers are no long ICs while theyre command squad is still alive right? Thats why I went with the twin powerfisty death
For the russ I'd need to rip the lascannon off the one I have and find the sponsons i didnt put on, but i wasnt sure in the first place tbh, the lascannon was just easier at the time of making...
Any more thoughts?
Dropping the chimera for the extra bodies and the elite stormies could help a bit. It would mean less shots but all of your force would be slightyl more effective which makes up for it IMO.
As far as the IC is concerned the commisar Isn't but I'm not sure about the Officer under new rules. I think he might still be (just checked he cant be singled out until the whole squad is dead as he is counted as an upgrade character like the commisar!). Shooting wise he cant be singled out but with the wound allocation he could still die before the rest of his squad if enough shots come your way. Same goes for assault as well be careful with the commisar though as due to his different stats he can sort of be singled out.
Just remember that you need to go for small units as guard are pretty rubbish in combat so 4 wounds may not be enough!
As far as the russ goes, I have loads with the box setup of lascannon on the hull. Havnt got round to converting them yet (Don't play enough atm to make it worthwhile!) but simply put it will help so much and is worth the effort.
Hope that helps
