Ive havent been gaming for like 2 years, but got back into for my male love for war.
Anyways, i had a chaplain, 2 10 man marines squads with power fist and meltas/flamer/pla guns.
I brought Black Reach today, probably the best box set Gamesworkshop ever released considering just the terminators and the captain seperately cost the same price as like 50 models and extras!!
So heres a list i made, i havent got exact points as i havent got codex yet.
Chaplian-Plasma pistol= 110ish
Captain-Power sword bolt pistol= 100ish
(Can you guys recommend any good wargear as i have no idea whats avalible in the new dex)
Venerable Dread-Extra Armour=170ish
5 Termies= 200ish
2x8 marines-Plasma gun, misslelauncher, veteran w/ powerfist=150ish
2x10 Marines (no jumppacks)-melta in one, flamer in other, vet w/ powerfist in each= 360ish
The 2 Tac squads hold a flank each.
The Dread and termies take the center with an assualt squad either side (With a chappy and catpain in each assualt squad).
Hopefuly enemy with shoot dread and termies (the venerable will hold of fire for a while) leaving my assualt squads unscathed ready to dish out 30 attacks per squad with rerolls to hit with the chappys squad (is Liniates of Hate still in the dex?).
And tac squads hold flanks and shoot things shooting my main spearhead.
What do you guys think?
Desolation Fists - 600pts
you can't have special weapons in a tactical squad of less than 10 models.
also, personally, I would only go for one character in anything less than 1500. give the remaining character a jump pack and put him with an assault squad and you got one badass counter assault/assault unit.
I assume you included the dread and termies cause they came in the box set? as you expand your collection, You're going to want to sub out those terminators. just not worth it in a smaller points game. you could get another full tactical squad to hold an objective. with 30 tactical marines and 20 assualt marines, a lot of people will have problems irradicating that many power armoured monsters. but then again, thats my own experiences, cause 5 terminators isn't really enough in my opinion. cause they take ALOT of fire.
what is you're anti tank plan? assualt squad power fists and your lone rocket melta squad? or is the assualt marines going to be tackling squads?
Good choice with the dread though, so much fun, and in small games, they're godly. you're army seems to rely on the assualt marines a lot. why not go for shrike as you're character? hes a pretty solid man to be taking down anything in his charge range. and if you don't like the raven guard fluff, make you own and count ass. see if you can find an extra jump pack lying around and strap your captain from the box set to it. haha.
but anywho. other than the tactical marine squad size, this list down't look too bad. pretty elitist. exactly like a strike force of marines is thought to be.
Thanks man. Btw those assualt marines dont have jump packs as they are converted choas marines with less spikes.
The termies attract the fire so the assuault squads can be at full strength-ish dishing 60 attacks + 12 HQ power weapon attacks
yea, i need a dedicated anti tank thing. Ive got 4 missle launchers i can desperately put together...
What things to think i should get next?
Desolation Fists - 600pts
foot slogging assualt squads? I hate to say it but are you serious? rhinos, or drop pods, is where you should be headed next. are you planning on a mechanized marine force? cause that would work pretty well with what you got going. drop pods are fun, and with new rules, are sweet. Can't really suggest anything for you to get next until you know what you want to do with you're army. but a devestator squad of 4 rocket launchers is my all time third favorite squad, right after plasma cannon devestators and dreadnoughts... those rockets are hugely versatile.
tell me what you invision a fun army/style of play is and I'll do my best to help you out. Ive got a background in infiltrating dev heavy marines, drop pod marines, and mechanized marines... you got to play to what you think is fun.
