Hi im building a balanced army for next years Arcanacon tournament in Melbourne Australia. Its part of the Ultramarines 2nd Battle Company im working on. The games will be played on a 6 by 4 foot table. I feel that I have very strong shooting element and a decent counter attack assault force however might lack in mobility.
The Sternguard are 5 points cheaper than an equivalent devastator squad and will allow me to have 25 marines doing something while 3 las cannons shoot at one target every turn. However I have been contemplating bringing a Ironclad Dreadnaught with two hunter killer missiles instead of the sternguard.
I refuse to double up on Vindicators as i find that become overpowered and a little bit cheesy.
Chaplain +Jump Pack + Melta Bombs = 120 points
Tactical Marine Squad 10 man + Flamer + Heavy Bolter = 170
Tactical Marine Squad 10 man + Flamer + Plasma Cannon= 175
Tactical Marine Squad 10 man + Melta Gun + Lascannon = 190
Sternguard 5 man + 2 Lascannons= 155 points
Assault Squad 8man + Power Fist = 179 points
Vindicator + Siege Shield = 125 points
Predator Destructor = 85 points
Total: 1199 points
Is there anything else i can do to improve my list? Please comment on it. Thank you.
Hey, where would you be staying at arcanacon? You have to be there for like 3 days (sat, sun and apparently mon) so any motel is going to be very expensive. I'm a fan of your list but wouldn't the stern guard be wasted sitting back shooting? I guess if they are just a cheaper devastator unit they at least do have more flexibility. Some mobility would be good, considered dropping a few assault marines for a razorback?
Move forward and stay quiet brothers.
Check out my half finished blog here.
Thanks for the comments, dropping a couple of assault marines sounds like an interesting idea, give those sternguards more mobility and flexibility. But i will lose some wounds and CC attacks to my close combat element, gah decisions! I guess im going to have to play test it.
