My LGS is doing an escalation league, and seeing as how I just started my SM, I'm psyched.
That said, I'm a little worried about my list for it; right now, I was thinking:
Chapter Master 125
The basic strat is pretty simple; Use the Vindi to take out heavy armor, or even just a lot of infantry at once. The tac squads would take Obj, the first being able to Combat squad if need be.
I don't have a Librarian, but I thought it might be a good idea to convert an AoBR captain to be one. Would that be a good replacement for the Chapter Master?
I also don't have any scouts, but should I get some to replace the 5 man tac sqaud?
And just a random question of the moment: Do y'all put siege shields on the vindi model? and if so, do you use it? I like the model with it on, but not sure if its even worth 10 pts
Thanks in advance for any help/criticism!
Yeah you may aswell switch from a 5 man tactical squad to scouts, since imo opinion 5 man tactical squads are very poor since they can't use special or heavy weapons. You also might think about switching the chapter master out for a basic Capatian Librarian or Chaplain if you need some spare points.
500 points can be a bit tricky for Marines, since the models are so expensive. I think you've got a solid basis, and you could certainly run with it. I've got a couple of suggestions listed below, feel free to run with or disregard them at will.
* Stat-wise a Chapter Master and a Captain are identical, the only difference is in unlocking an Honor Guard vs Command Squad, and the orbital bombardment. The first is a moot point, and I think you could do without the bombardment seeing as you're sneaking a piece of heavy armor with one of the game's nastiest ordnance weapons into the list. Downgrade him to a Captain and save yourself some points.
* I'd use some of those freed-up points to give your Captain a power weapon. Its a waste to keep him using his nifty stats with just a regular chainsword. Basic Marines are competent but not great in close combat, and a Captain with a power weapon is a real monster, especially at such a low point limit.
* I'd replace the 5-man Tactical Squad with a Scout Squad. Doing that gets you an extra Scout for a 6-man Squad, and scouts also have the option of adding a heavy weapon. Which if you dropped the Chapter Master for a Captain, and added a power weapon, you have just enough points left to get yourself a missile launcher or heavy bolter for the squad (I'd lean towards the former). You also have the option to give them sniper rifles for some more versatility, as opposed to sticking with the regular bolter.
* Alternately, you could use the extra points to upgrade your Tactical Squad's missile launcher to a lascannon, just in case you're paranoid about the enemy taking a similar approach and slipping in some heavy armor. If you encounter a Russ, Vindicator, or something similar, missile launchers are kinda hard-pressed to deal with them. Then you're down to having to use your Demolisher Cannon in an anti-tank role.

I like Sokhars ideas
However instead of powersword take a lightning claw on captain
The troop squad could replace the Missile Launcher with Multi-Melta if there is a concern of high AV vehicles (I guarentee there will be a max of 1 someone could scrape in 2 but that would severly nerf the rest of there list and a tank is £25 so I doubt youd want two just for 500 points)
The scouts you can either make a unit of 6 with sniper rifles and a missile launcher or a unit of 5 with camo cloaks sniper rifles and missile launcher.
The Vindicator is fine as is.
