2x3 Penitent Engine
This runs 1502 so I could drop the grenades from the celests as that squad is mainly about the 3x evicerators re-rolling 3+ to hit = death. Then I would probably toss EA on the exorcist, though I don't see that moving much anyhow.
I figure 6 PEs charging forward are gonna be scary. I plan on trying this out with some eldar WWs to proxy for PEs to test it out. The only thing that concerns me is the low number of troops, but if I keep them safe in the rhinos mostly should be good.
I must admit I love the idea of six walkers charging forwad. Perhaps it has something to do with how cool the model is it;s self. I am concerned about how few sisters you have though. I'm thinking that you could drop the rhino's and either a PE or the retinue and have another unit of SoBs foot slogging behiind the PEs. Six PE's should be more than enough to scare the pants of any one and I would think the sisters would most likely servive the walk.
If I drop 2 PEs and 1 celest, I can get a squad of 12 foot sloggers. They could walk it or just be used on objectives back in my area. Give 2 sisters and the vet storm bolters to hit people from further away, this could work and 2 units of 2 PEs is still nothing to scoff at. If I was charging forward, once the celests get dropped off I could probably use that rhino for them.
I if you do, do that, then you have a case of mixed mech. It almost allways dose not pan out well in the end. I say go all foot slog and drop all the rhino's. Try to keep as many PE's as possible. One thing that might put a damper on things is that is very common for troops to cary frag, and krack grenades. 6+d6 wil cause all sorts of hell in close combat. If I were you and wanted to have a walker heavy list I would have to say go all the way with the amount of walkers possible as you are going to loose many of them fast and most likely on the first turn. With the amount of anti armor everyone runs now a days I would be surprised if you did not loose at least one walker on the first turn to a bright lance, lascannon, railgun, or even plasma.
I would something like:
Cannoness w/ cloak, book, blessed weapon, bolt pistol 101
10xSoB: VSS, melta, heavy flamer, book, priest 191
10xSoB: VSS, melta, heavy flamer, 146* (Cannoness geos here)
10xSoB: VSS, melta, heavy flamer, book, 151
2x3 PE 480
Exorcist w/ smoke 138
total = 1207 of 1500 (293 pts left)
Now I would have to choose if I would want to go all mech or all slog at this point. You could add three rhinos with smoke and a small 5 man (or girl rather ) squad of serephim and you would be very close to 1500 pts
You could also add 293 pt of SoB's, maybe a unit of Repentia or even flagelants. Eather way it will be a very scary force.
There are a few things that are going in favour of a wlaker heavy list.
1) Dawn of War.
Allows you to get up close and personal to the enemy.
2) Smoked Rhinos
Moving cover is good for keeping your guys safe
3) Sister Screen
screening sisters = 4+ save -> much more survivable.
ZMB, yeah I think I would probably stick with a more mech list so I could have my fewer amount of troops protected by some armor.
Those are some great ideas on how to protect those engines phr0z3n, thanks. Well I have to put together my friends eldar war walker's first so I can even proxy this list. I should be able to try that out in a week or two depending on when I get the walker pieces.
Why 2x3 PEs and not 3x2? Makes 'em harder to kill and more dynamic imo.
Kill the mutant! Purge the unclean!
Personally, I'd say three units of two. That way you can spread the lovin' around a little more. At least have a better chance of a unit making it into CC.
Arvan'drynn Craftworld - 15,000pts (deceased)
Tau - 2,000 points (atomized while on patrol)
Ok...I see the trees through the forest now....I think I need more coffee. In all respects I say thst is a very sound way to go and agree whole heartedly.
