    1000pt Black Templar Tournamet

Hello, everyone. I'm gearing up for a 1000-pt 4 round tourney at the local game store this month, and I'd like opinions on my current Black Templar list:

    HQ
Emperor’s Champion (with Tactical Squad 1)
Accept any challenge, no matter the odds

    Elites
    Dreadnought
Multi-Melta, Dreadnought CC Weapon & Storm Bolter, Extra Armor

    Troops
    Crusade Squad 1
Initiate with Power Fist, Bolt Pistol, Frags
    Initiate, Melta Gun, Frags
8 Initiates, Bolt Pistol, Chainsword, Frags
10 Novices, Bolt Pistol, CC Weapon, Frags

    Crusade Squad 2
    Initiate with Missile Launcher
    Initiate with Plasma Gun
    4 Initiates, Bolter

    Crusade Squad 3
    Initiate with Missile Launcher
    Initiate with Plasma Gun
    4 Initiates, Bolter

    Fast Attack
    Assault Squad
Initiate, Bolt Pistol, Power Fist, Frag Grenades, Melta Bombs
7 Initiates, Bolt Pistol, CC Weapon, Frag Grenades, Melta Bombs

    Total: 996

As for options, I have a marshall with power weapon/plasma pistol,
2 more initiates, 1 with flamer, 1 with power sword,
    Land Speeder with heavy bolter,
    Rhino,
Dreadnought with all available arms interchangeable,
6 Terminators, 2 with assault cannons, 1 with chainfist,
1 attack bike with multimelta (I'd need to buy/paint a second to field it, but I've considered it as I have time yet before the tourney).

    Opinions would be appreciated.

okay, this is my third attempt at posting this

Emperor’s Champion (with Tactical Squad 1)

He's an obvious choice, and best vow in 5th. Good.

    Dreadnought
Multi-Melta, Dreadnought CC Weapon & Storm Bolter, Extra Armor
I think you should give him Smokes, and that will make ur army 999pts

As well, consider dropping him back to his original weapon, AC. In your tournament, you probably won't see too many LR's or high AV tanks, so I wouldn't worry too much about the 1 STR 8 shot as opposed to 4 STR 6 shots, with rending. He might not need EA at that point, but if your just trying to fill points, then why not.

    Crusade Squad 1
Initiate with Power Fist, Bolt Pistol, Frags
    Initiate, Melta Gun, Frags
8 Initiates, Bolt Pistol, Chainsword, Frags
10 Novices, Bolt Pistol, CC Weapon, Frags
Good squad, large with lots of ablative armour. Take the neos out first obviously. I would consider dropping the meltagun for the flamer marine you have

    Crusade Squad 2
    Initiate with Missile Launcher
    Initiate with Plasma Gun
    4 Initiates, Bolter

    Crusade Squad 3
    Initiate with Missile Launcher
    Initiate with Plasma Gun
    4 Initiates, Bolter
I'm not sure I understand the basis for 6 marine squads, but ok. They are good.

    Assault Squad
Initiate, Bolt Pistol, Power Fist, Frag Grenades, Melta Bombs
7 Initiates, Bolt Pistol, CC Weapon, Frag Grenades, Melta Bombs
good size with PF looks nice. You might not need the meltabombs, which frees up alittle bit of points
    Total: 996

Okay, so overall, the army looks decent. I fear your going to have a problem with the dreadnought however. The problem is that he is the only armour on the board for your side, which means opponents with a LC or RL's are gonna be firing at him cause hes pretty easy to pick off. The same goes for that large 21 man squad. They are footslogging accross the board, with nothing heavy to hide behind. You're going to have to hope really well for good terrain, otherwise people will direct almost all fire at them, because the other squads pose no threat from a distance besdies 2 RL shots, which can be dangerous, but not as much as 21 guys trucking forward at you.

Option - you could drop the 2 extra marines in those smaller crusader squads bringing them down to 5, the EA on the dreadnought, the meltabombs on the assault troops giving you about 50 points, and add 2 more assault marines to round that squad up to 10. I didnt do the math, but that might even be too much, you might be able to keep the EA or Meltabombs. Check it out.

As for what else you have. The 2 Attack bikes seem like a real viable selection. Like i said, give the dread an AC, and maybe drop one of those crusader squads to make enough points for those MM attack bike. It takes the pressure off the dread and gives u 2 fast moving tank hunters. The Marshal isn't required, as the only squad u care about Ld for is the big one, which already has Ld10 from the EC. Terminators aren't a good idea for 1000pts game cause they take up alot of it.

Hope all of that gives you some options.

I see what you mean, I'm a little melta-happy with the current list. Given the selected vow, I'll consider swapping the dread MM for the AC, since he'll hopefully be running into combat as soon as possible.

The 6-man fire support squads are just a convenient size for points that I've used before.

I can see dropping the meltabombs since the assault team's powerfist will effectively deal with any armor being assaulted.

Based on the tourney ads, the games will all be played on 4x4 boards with lots of terrain, so I'm thinking that a quick footslog will get the crusade into action soon enough.

Looks like I'll be running out tonght to pick up an extra attack bike.
