Got a few more games under my belt, and ran this list last Tuesday. I very nearly beat a rampaging Ork horde with over 100 orks including Gazkull and some mega nobs using this list - failing some very very bad rolls, I could potentally have ruined them even more:
Chaplain with Jump Pack
Tactical Squad (10 marines) with Power Fist, missile launcher and flamer.
Tactical Squad (10 marines) with Power Fist, plasma Cannon and Heavy Bolter.
Scout Squad (10 scouts) with Heavy Bolter, Power Fist
Terminator Squad with Assault Cannon
Assault Marines (10 marines) with plasma pistol, power weapon
Land Raider with storm bolter
Vindicator with dozer blade and storm bolter
Army Total: 1500 pts
Now next Thursday, I'm playing one of the blue shirts, who has a Catachan force, using their old old old codex. We've agreed to go to 1750 points, so I was wondering what you guys would recommend I use to get the extra 250 points, out of the following:
5 x Assault Terminators
2 x Whirlwinds
1 x Captain w/ combi melta, lightning claw, artificer armour
1 x Rhino
1 x Dreadnought with Multi Melta
1 x Tac squad with flamer and missile launcher
1 x Drop pod
I'm thinking I go with the two whirlwinds for the blast templates and the ignorance of cover using certain ammunition...as I intend to blast all his models to hell and back before he gets close enough to use his close combat skill and melta weaponry. The above extras represent the extent of my army at the mo...so any recommendations using the aboce will be great!!!
What about a dread in drop pod. Then get a whirlwind for some fire support and put another tac squad in a rhino. Drop the storm bolter from your vindiacator to free up the extra 10 points.

Thanks for the feedback - I shall see what appears on my painting table over the weekend!!!
