I've just started Guard. I want to make an army with lots of firepower, but keeping some mobility.
Doctrines- Sharpshooters, Close Order Drill
SO with Medic, Standard, Vox - 82 points
AT Squad w/ 3 Lascannons- 110 points
Fire support Squad w/ 3 Autocannon - 95 points
Mortar squad - 80 points
Armoured Fist w/ vox, meltagun - 75 points
Chimera w/ Multilaser, HB, smoke launchers - 88 points
Overall - 163 points
Infantry Platoon- 200 points
JO- 40 points
1st squad w/ HB, Plasma Gun - 80 points
2nd squad w/ HB, Plasma Gun - 80 points
Hellhound w/ extra armour and smoke launchers - 123 points
Leman Russ w/HB - 145
Total - 998 points
If there is any unnecessary stuff, I would like to upgrade the Leman Russ if possible. the Vox i thought would be useful for the AF if they go marauding.
Or I could cut out the Leman russ and vox and put in a demolisher... just a thought.
Nice list - quite balanced..
I'd drop the vox... upgrade your AF sarg and you have same Ld as your SO. Also if your in close order drill you get a +1 to LD. (so thats 9 for that AF squad - nice!!) I'd also drop the medic in your HQ, you would then have x3 meatshield guardsman for wound allocation in your HQ.
I'd also drop the extra amour and smoke launchers off the hellhound - and get that Demolisher...the hellhound and Demolisher would support each other quite nicely, and if any points left over try and upgrade your JO with some flamers or melta as an anti assult/tank hunting group..

What do i upgrade the AF sarge with???
And also should i have sponsons on the Demolisher???
drop the mortar, mortars are only good in large quantities.
change it for another squad or... if you could get another 30 points change it for a veterans squad + 3 meltas or 3 plasmas: these guys are devastating and very mobile

Ok so now i've got rid of the vox, medic and mortars, and replaced the leman russ with a demolisher. ive kept the extra armour and smoke launchers on the hellhound because ive got enough points anyway. the total now comes to 907 points. should i use them to: put in an extra infantry platoon with autocannon/HB and plasma ?? get 8 ratlings?? get the hardened vets squad with about 7 men and the spec weapons ubergeit suggested?? get an extra HB/Autocannon squad??
