I did notice typo in title as soon as I posted...it's supposed to say 2000pts...
My friends and I are setting up a friendly tournament. I'll be facing four space marine armies, a Tau army, a chaos army and a Eldar army.
Doctorines are; Techpriest Engineers, Sanctioned Psykers, Storm Troopers, Drop Troopers and Close Order Drill.

I plan to use the Infantry squads to drop into position behind the enemy. The tanks are to draw fire while hiding behind cover. The HSO and Techpriest would head straight into the enemy to try and kill enemy commanders and tanks with their power weapons. Everything else will be used to set up two bases of fire on either side of the enemy and destroy them as they split their force.
If you make your HSO in your HQ a JO and give him Honorifica Imperialis you'll find that you would 5 points to spend on something else.
JO is 65 points with Honorifica Imperialis while the HSO is 70 points.
I feel power weapons are a waste on Guard. S3 wounds most things on a 5 so its unlikely to kill anything.
While im still a total noob at Guard there are a few things id like to point out as just weird/definetly not optimized untits or upgrades.
Eginseer Unit- you say in your strategy post that he and his unit are for cc againt tanks/command units yes? but then why stick a plasma cannon in the unit?
HQ unit- even with the super tooled HQ unit you have, because its ment for cc and not shooting, you're not going to kill alot, and even with your comisarrs and psykers in the unit any dedicated assault troops could match it in cc effectiveness, and 1/4th of your budget on HQ isnt very conducive to a winning guard list imo
Troops - this problem is simple, are your troops ment to sit back and shoot or to charge in and engage in short range firefights? because flamers are not very good used in conjuntion with long range heavy weponry as they cannot be used together unless the enemy is already upon you. In that cause you would've been better of with a plasmagun or GL that could widdle down the enemy unit before cc.
Storm Troopers Unit: this unit is a decent troop killer, but you would be better off dropping the Pw and the flamer and getting two special wepons of the same type, even if they need to be both flamers to mow down some large mobs.
the heavy support and fast attack are fine.
The one thing i that cannot be said enough about the faults in this list are, Guard arent good at melee, not against anybody! (except tau and thats its FW's only) Power wepons and tooled up melee squads are a waste, instead focus on bringing down enemies in a hail of fire and if you must have mobile short range units that can move -> rapid fire -> hopefull kill or hope for the best in melee.
PS another major point id like to make is that stacking special weapons in squads that are able to take multiple special wepons is a good idea, and that in line squads heavy wepons and special weapons should be used in conjuntion ie two wepons that can be used effectively together.
Thats all ive got
New Crons 1000 points painted 6/2/10
Empire WIP unpainted (Averheim black and yellow!)
NO GUARD UNIT CAN EVER BETTER MEQ IN HTH
i dont care what you do, we are not made for combat!!!!! the only time we can assault with a good chance is against tau(without kroot) or against that single last member of the enemy squad left(after we shot all his friends)
basically the max number of space marines a command squad can deal with would probably be 5.........however doing so will cripple the command squad that assaulted, so in the end your better off shooting assault weapons as much as possible and then charge hoping to kill the last 1 or 2 space marines!!!!!
anyway back to the list-
your HQ costs too much, 1 heavy flamer and you lose 300 or so points.
drop the advisors, they are overpriced, if you want keep the psyker but give him horifica and a force weapon(they tend to make their price back) but other than that, I say drop em!
drop the vox network, you dont need it, use leadership bubbles, the only armies that need voxes are drop troop armies, light infantry armies, and mechanised armies, because you cannot keep a leadership bubble close enough in those armies.
make the techpriest squad shooty or drop them..........actually since the amount of cover in 5th and the fact that you can only have 1 plasma cannon, drop the techpriest entirely.... look around, go through all the army lists on this website, and tell me if anyone uses a techpriest, odds are you wont find anyone using one because they are not worth their price.
BTW(personal preference) you might want to drop a flamer or 2 for a grenade launcher or plasma gun for the extra range.
Hellhounds are good tanks
Satan - "**** you Kage! And **** you Jables! I'll get you Tenacious DDDDdddddddeeeeee!!!!!!"
First off your not paying enough for your sentinels as one sentinel costs 35pts plus type so instead of the 135 your paying for its actually 245 pts for 3 armaggedon and 2 catachan
Second in my opinion the flamers are good but if your gonna take a heavy weapon you dont need a flamer and if your gonna take heavy weapons try to take the same ones so that you have an a withering hail of the same fire and you can fire indiscriminately were as a range of weaps means you have to shoot this at that and this at that and so on but say you took all autocanons or all Heavy bolters you could just waste at least a unit per turn.
The Tanks are good but for tactics wise if you want to assault (which i vouch for , it works no matter what people say as long as you out number them and took close order drill) i would say keep the platoon without heavy weaps back with your hellhound and advance them along with it so that when you make it to assault the enemy is significantly weaker and the mega flamer from the tank is a good marine killer so it can soften assault targets.
thats my 2 cents hope it helps
You army list is bleeding points. It should be a 1,500pt list, not a 2,000.
Do this, and you save 65pts
Doing that saves 65pts...
Do this, you save another 36pts.
Do this and save 225pts!!
Vet sergeant is a waste, as is the power weapon. Drop them both. Exchange the flamer for something more useful. Part of the reason for taking stormtroopers is BS 4. A flamer hits automatically. Take a plasma gun or a melta.
Doing this saves 11pts.
Drop it and save 265pts
Do this and save 15 pts.
Drop it and save 10 points
If you take my advice, you will have another 627 POINTS!
You need to seriously reconsider this list. As it stands, it is god damn terrible.
