    Current 1850 Competative list

So I'm extremely serious about making this list competitive. There is a lot of power armor in my area so don't lynch me because of all the plasma. The fluff spin on my army is that they fought the night lords on Vogan and won (with the help of the Imperial Fists) as per the old Codex Battlezone: Cityfight.

Anyway, Here's my list. There are a few things I'm unhappy with

    Basilisk - 125 points

    Total Points: 1850

A few things about this list:
I've never run my Russes without smoke and extra armor so I'm looking for places where the points might come from. I do really enjoy having power weapons strewn through out my list, but if you guys have any compelling arguements I'd be will to listen.

All of the models are complete and in my personal collection, execpt for the 2nd sentinel as I can't think of a striking topic for it's base. I'm basically going for as efficient a list as possible with as many men and tanks as possible. I think the count is about

Thanks again LO for checking out my 1850 tourney list.

-i don't like this squad at all. How are you going to get the close enough to a tank to make the melta's effective? You're better off tossing a hb and 2 plasma guns in. Or you could mount them in a chimera if you can free up the points for it.

-i hate hate hate sentinels. They die far too quickly for their point cost. You're better off with a hellhound for a few extra points.

    heavy support

leman russ battle tank - 155 points
    - hull mounted heavy bolter
    - sponson heavy bolters

    basilisk - 125 points
    - indirect fire
-bassies are nice, but demolishers are even nicer. You already have 2 LRBT's to take care of the long range stuff, how about some somewhat close range support? Having the bassie with two leman russ' is a little overkill, imo.

-the main problem i have with this list is that you have way too many kill points. You're going to lose every annihilation game you play, no matter what you do. I personally take the grenadiers doctrine and run squads of storm troops in chimera to try and counteract this problem.

Well, one question I have for you is how much you are willing to sacrifice to be competitive in Annihilation missions?

Lately I've been bringing 3 Russes and 3 Hellhounds in order to mitigate my KP burden. The problem, of course, is that you still pretty much have to table your opponent a fair amount of the time.

Junior Officers A and B are the only drop troops I see in the list and they give 4 KPs together.

This is a really good 4th edition list, but lacks the objective taking abilities of a good 5th edition list. The Bring More Men mentality also fails in 1/3 of the games you'll roll.

That being said, I have no perfect advice to you on making it competitive that way. My personal choice has been to run remnant squads with a flamers or grenade launchers as additional objective takes using drop troops and just living with the KP problems. Or just whole squads without heavy weapons.

I haven't tried chimera spamming yet.

I've managed pretty well with the objective capturing aspects on the new 5th edition rules. As depending on the scenario I will drop troop some of my 10 man squads. But you're right. Kill point game are almost always a loss. My list can give away a whopping 21 kill points. I've actually lost games where I wiped my opponent to a single MODEL and still lost thanks to killpoints.

I'm extremely close to dropping the 2nd command section in favor of a chimera. efectively giving me 1 full platoon and an armored fist. There is no way getting around the other 2 command sections though as I don't have access to any more stormtroopers to use as grenadiers, though I may switch them to that for more objective takers.

I'm really interested in running hellhounds but I think I'm either going to wait until the new (rumored) hellhound/chimera box set comes out or I can get a good deal on the forgeworld ones.

I was also thinking about remnant squads but I fear that they will just be really easy kill points for your opponent to earn.

My current motto in reguards to kill points is to try and wipe my opponent off the table or forget that it exists and hope that the new dex fixes us.

    Thanks for the replies.

I'll start thinking of ways to minimize the kill point situation.
